IID tool related question.Available software updates

Hi Hive mind,
I had another poke around the IID Tool and it showed me, that there are software updates available for my car.
    My question are :
are there any benefits of updating?
are there any downsides/risks of updating?
    which updates would you do?

Thank you for all your help.

I think that the majority consensus is that if the car is running ok with no issues then leave well alone. The Auto gearbox updates(if available) are sometimes worthwhile if you have hard shifting or similar issues but other than that there are better things to spend your money on. You need to have a decent battery supply if you are ECU flashing and you could end with a bricked car in extreme cases. Perhaps activating some of the hidden options (4x4 info screen, 3 flash indicators etc) might be a better/safer/cheaper option! IMHO. Thumbs Up

Thank you for your quick reply and advise.
From your answer I assume, that one has to pay JLR stealers for the software update. I do have most things enabled that you suggested. Just need to plug pin 3 back into the sat nav, and then enable the 4x4 screen thru the IID tool.

The updates are available from GAP at a cost of £25 per update. You have to send the ecu info to them and they will advise which ones are available. To be fair to them they are just as likely to tell you there is no benefit to an update than suggest a big list of updates that you would not notice any difference once they were installed. Pat at GAP is very good in keeping you right!
