IID tool... buy or see an expert? |
|
Hi all,
I have a couple of things I need to sort immediately... 1 is a battery replacement so I will need the battery management reset and I'd also like to engage and sort the timed climate and the FBH....
Can anyone tell me where is best to get an IID tool or is it false economy to buy one in that its better to let an expert or independent play around with the settings for me?
Many thanks in advance for any help....

Definition of expert, ex is a has been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure.
Seriously though, IID is invaluable, and will always be able to sell on when you don't have the need for it.
Where abouts in West Sussex are you?

so about 470 quid? Will that one do all I need or will it require the "pro"?
Hi Dave,
I'm near Arundel.... by expert I mean an independent LR specialist... there is one in Bognor..... trouble is, my 2014 still has 7 months full JLR approved warranty so I'm trying to work out the best way of doing this as obviously don't wan to be using Harwoods unless absolutely necessary!
I think the independent place is still LR approved for repair/warranty so may pop in there and ask. A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Hi LT....from my reading it needs doing every time.... it won't charge your new battery correctly without a reset and a lot of systems are closed off by the BMS with the older battery.... my stop/start isn't working for instance......It also won't operate the FBH with a failing battery.... I want to get this working too.... (just in time for the summer!)
I have also read that it will relearn over time but a reset starts everything from afresh and makes sure the alternator recharges the battery as a "new" item rather than a failing one that cannot achieve full charge.
I have found the icarsoft reader that does the reset and a lot more....I may get this as I'm always fiddling around with my vehicles. A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

So, the IID is obviously the full fat version but as a ‘poor relation’ I may buy this....
I have checked and it does all I need apart from the fbh.... it also does 21 other makes rather than just LR and is of course mainly a code reader “with benefits”
Seeing as I’m continually fiddling with cars (we have 4 here inc the wife, children and grandads cars) I will go with this unless anyone knows something drastic about it?
I’m certainly going to need a diagnostic during my D4 ownership after the warranty expires!

s60r, Arundel, not too far if you ever get stuck.
I use an indie in Lancing, garage not the cleanest, but he knows his stuff and is relatively cheap.
He looks after both my LR motors, and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Harwoods (Pulborough) like to charge, and although they did find the problem, Harwoods (Hove) as was, were inclined to change items in the hope the problem would go away.
My main gripe with Harwoods is that Pulborough wouldn't sort out what Hove had charged me for but didn't fix, I had to pay again.
End result, Harwoods as a group lost my 2 motors and my wifes Audi.

Yes Dave I have heard at least 2 other similar reports from Harwoods service....they have lost your business as well!
Mine still has some JLR warranty which is a bonus on a 6 year old motor.... hopefully the indie will be able to action JLR warranty work.... I will do most of the upkeep and preventative myself.... its just had a new EPB before I got it so one less thing hopefully!
Hope you still liking yours.... what else do you have other than the D4? A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Ah ok!
Sorry... excuse my Noob question.... its my first JLR...
Luckily, the tool I purchased was able to reset both batteries and I have now got full start/stop back...
I also think the fbh came on this morning? There was an odd burning smell in the cabin but it warmed up quickly! A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.
