IID - Quick Q
Hi,
New LR owner so sorry for the annoying basic question. I've been around VWs for years and have VCDS Lite ( OBD cable, plugs into laptop and interacts with software for faults and adaptions). I also have an OBDElevan Code reader that did most of the things VCDS did but was a bluetooth device.
Quick Q - is IID a particular tool like VCDS or is a generic name for an array of tools. What tool would people recommend for me - DIY chap interested in keeping the car in top health but will use a speciaist for major jobs and annual servicing.
I'm likely to buy another land rover in the future - maybe a freelander 2 for my wife.

IID is specific to GAP Diagnostics and is the tool of choice for both professionals and DIY'ers.
ie Dedicated LR diagnostic tool, not generic.
Not cheap, but great piece of kit that will pay for itself time and again. There are cheaper tools out there from our friends in the far east but others may know something of they're value.
If you ever move on from LR you can expect to get £300 back on the tool by selling it on here!
First class aftersales service from GAP which is invaluable in itself, and makes the outlay justified in my view. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

IID has the convenience of OBDeleven but without the subscription model. You pay up front for full functionality on one vehicle and can add more vehicles for a relatively small fee. Or transfer ownership for even less which is great for buying secondhand.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I've just moved to VAG and can't decide whether to go VCDS or OBDeleven. Probably the former when I get around to it... 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Thanks folks. I think i will have to go for the Autel at those prices.
Re:vcds or obdeleven - for me they do the same thing but vcds needs a laptop. You can do all the walk throughs you find on the net such as Ross tech. You can try VCDS lite with a cheap Chinese cable to see which you prefer before committing.Land Rover(s) : '10 Discovery 4
