Have to disagree. Got my 55 plate D3 in Aug 12 and ther was lots of surface rust however most serious (and this is from someone who has owned TR7 and Rover SD1 so I know rust when I see it) was the rear of the body shell underneath at the back just infront of the rear cross member. Rust was really getting a hold.
Go have it done at the Waxworks in Morpeth. Great guy and great job.

Thats interesting as you have an early D3. Also disappointing as its only 8 years old. I will investigate the companies and material used locally first before considering such a trek.D4 XS just sold. The best car I’ve owned. Over 10 years and no problems.

I don't think anyone was suggesting there are no D3s out there with rust, just that that the majority are rust-free.
If we are comparing notes I have seen corrosion on a lower door pinch lines, bonnet brackets, below scuttle, underneath roof-bar trim and a few other examples along the way. My point is that non of these areas of rust form a consistent pattern across all D3s like you can sometimes see with lesser cars.
There was no rust on my 05 HSE after 8 years apart from the surface rust patina on the chassis rails.

If your going to all the hassle of taking the exhaust heat shields off to get to the brake lines you had might as well do the chassis rails underneath at the same time ?Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Yes. Absolutely and get it done professionally.
mine was done by Rustmaster. Brilliant Job and if i was buying second hand (as I did) I would be paying more for a treated vehicle.
CCmay the odds be ever in your favor

I'm observing all this. Opposing views as we should expect of course.
So far it certainly seems a pro job is the way to go, should I go. Not all the pro's are well regarded though as a trawl through previous posts has shown.
Amazing what you can learn from a good forum. Especially when you know nowt like me.

My vw camper, bought new in 2002, was plastered underside with whatever treatment used in the factory. Only one small area started blistering near the door and that probably started as a stone chip the rest underneath looks as good as new after 96k miles, so that has turned into a keeper.

Forgot to say that your Danbury outfit looks brilliant. I did my type 2 apprenticeship back in the late seventies with a Dormobile 4/6. When we were up to 3 kids, we added a French Rapido folding caravan on the hook. That van was always called Mr Volksie. Our young son abreviated that to zic z zikzik. It stuck!

our 55 D3 had a fair bit of surface rust behind the wheelarch liners. Had it all dinatrolled, looks excellent now. Needs a top up every 2 or 3 years if not used off road.
Done at armson A.e in syston Leics.cheers

Had mine done by RustMaster @ Hatfield.
Would I have it done again ?? Not sure to be honest and even though it was done 'professionally', I still find myself having to clean up / clean off every now and again.
Given the varying views, I guess the age old adage applies - you pay's yer money and takes yer choice
