Should I upgrade to an XXV?
Hi all.
I have a new HSE on order, due late September, but I have the opportunity of an XXV instead, which will be available around the same time. Lots of extra toys, some of which I won't use, but for some reason I am drawn to the idea, despite the £9k price difference.
My financial reasoning is that the real comparison is the difference in depreciation over the time of ownership, rather than the difference between purchase prices. Other than that, it's just cashflow.
Am I going mad? Head vs heart. What should I do?
Opinions welcomed!
Thanks,
Ray

Good old man maths in action.
Can't advise whether to buy or not to buy as I have a mental/financial block on spending more on a car than my first house.

Be careful, as many Landmark owners are finding out, anything which is a ‘limited’ or special edition is liable to depreciate faster than a standard model - it’s simply because, years down the line, dealers and prospective buyers won’t know or care what it is !!!

I would say 'no.' (And "You must be mad"). I've seen a Landmark when I picked up my HSE. I really didn't like the wheels at all, although the colour of the car was very nice. You'd never see the £9k back again, so you'd be flushing that down the tubes.PAGODA

I'd play the waiting game... Most dealers won't give any discount whatsoever on a xxv but they have also got them hanging around where they pre ordered them hoping to cash in... Don't think they are worth anywhere near the premium over the top of a HSE luxury , and I think they will be a few around dealerships shortly....

I saw the XXV in the dealer showroom yesterday (my guess is that every dealer's been forced to buy one). Looks lovely, but eye watering £65k price tag.
The first thing I thought, as others have said here, is that it will depreciate fast. In a few years time it will only be worth HSE/Lux money, especially as D4 will also be an "old" model by then.

Thanks guys.
My first house cost less than the price difference alone!

The xxv is just a HSE lux with all the extras, so more toys which you will probably never use and when you go to trade it in the dealer will always say that the extra options don't add any value to the car.
Save the 9k and have a 2 week family holiday in Barbados

Not worth the extra in my book but is any car. If you have the cash and want it then go for it.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Had a good look round one today in Pentland in Edinburgh......it's certainly very nice, but I'd have to go with the majority.... The one today had a couple of extras admittedly, but the sticker price was £67,775 .....there was a 13 plate Full Fat outside for the same price......personally speaking, for that money,I know where my cheque would be going...
Again,to echo others,it's your money and if you want it then go for it..... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

No chance, what does £9k get you other than a bit of tarting up on an already fully specced car. Forget it.

I'm probably throwing the spanner in the works but if I had the money I'd have the XXV. I'd probably keep it for a while though.
I looked at the spec a while ago and there are some extras that a HSE can add to their spec to make it up to XXV level but the colour combination is the only thing I found that wasn't available on the normal Discos. I'm sure the leather colour wasn't available on the normal cars.
A dealer in years to come will look at it as a standard HSE etc. But a member on here probably will pay the extra for it same as pay a bit more for a G4.Ian
