Put your fingers through in the bottom corners to grip it and pull hard.

Thanks. I'll try it first thing in the morning. I want to clean off the build up of dead bugs and am not keen to use the gernie.
edit: dead bugs on the intercooler /radiator.

When removing the grill release the top clips first followed by the bottom clips as described above.
When replacing it locate the two bottom clips first, followed by the top clips.MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

The first time I managed to pull one of the lower retaining clips out and didn't notice at the time. It's only £1 or so for a new one but still a scutter to go and get it, so it's worth checking they stay in place when you've got it off.
I've found that it takes quite a sharp yank to get it to release.Stew,
2010 D4 gone but I really loved it

Done. not as many bugs as first thought, however the removal and re-fit went smoothly thanks to the advice. Bottom lugs need a sharp tug to 'unlock' them and a sharp hit to 'lock' them in place.
All good. no doubt it will come off again when they fit the bullbar soon.
