Should I have my new car 'waxoyled' .. or something similar?
Probably been asked many times before ...... but times have changed.....?..... and I was wondering - living near the coast should I bother.....? whats your thoughts...please? Land Rover dealer dosn't seem to have the capability..... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Why would you think a dealer would want to waxoyl a brand new vehicle? If you really have a beard and wear woolly underpants then there are independents who wear fatigues that would do it or you 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

You have a good corrosion warranty and history shows that corrosion isn't a particular problem tbh ...spend your money on a nice accessory or gadget 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I would say rot isnt going to be a big prob on the D3/4 models, but rotten fixed brake pipes are well publicised, so maybe worth getting some grease on the rear ones?
Waxoyl itself is pretty crap, many better products out there, Ankor Wax is good, but with all chassis wax it makes working on the car a dirty job.

So long as you don't do this too often, you should be ok.
Mine get an occasional tactical spraying of Duck Oil and Aerospace 303 in the appropriate places. Helps the mud & salt to fall off easier.Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

WaxOyl is brilliant as an underbody (the vehicle) protector
But the key thing is preparation.....it has to be clean & dry....plus not corroded.BREXIT - done properly.

If thats who I think it is theres been many many interesting before and after posts over the years, all negative!
One I can remember is the disco that rotted away after the guy waxoyled it and I do mean rotted away!

I've wax oiled mine every year from 3 years old without any problems including brake pipes and it's over ten years old.
One area they do seem prone to rust is under the rear bumper around the tow bar electrics particularly if the towing cover is not fitted, better painted with Hammerite and I would recommend it being done before rather than after.It can when others can't,

I've owned my old bus for 10.5 years and its never been waxolyed and is used for what it was designed to do. The chassis etc is in pretty good nick with the odd bit of surface rust. Personnally I can't understand why you would bother Waxoyling a car. When was the last time you saw a rusted modern car?D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

As said, the L319 platform has been shown to be highly resistant to the rot, although some do fret unduly with the chassis patina.
If I was to use a corrosion inhibiter I would not choose waxoyl - that product has had its day and there are far better products on the market that are used by almost all manufacturers.
I think waxoyl is living on its reputation from the past when it was pretty much the only credible, but rather messy, aftermarket protector. Apparently electric lights have replaced candle power in most homes too.
