@Ken:
nuff said I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

You need a good pair of winching gloves too to stop your hands getting spiked by bits of wire.
Never ever let the cable slip through your hands always hold the cable and and allow your hand to move with the cable then let it go and grasp it again further back allowing your hand to move with the cable, however you must be at least 6ft from the winch.
Winch training 17th 18th November anyone
I never said anything about letting the cable slip through your hands but I still say a decent pair of gloves is a must have.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

You should dump the steel and get a synthetic rope. They are much stronger, lighter, and easier to handle. You don't have to worry about getting a loose strand embedded in your hand when handling the rope, although you should still always use gloves. As an added benifit it floats!David

How far did you have to travel to find the Massey Ferguson 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Stronger? don't think so - not for the same rated load!
Plasma line is much more prone to damage, especially when recovering another vehicle and the 'stretch' isn't always a plus point...

well things have been so quiet and harmonous round here of late, I thought I might spark up a bit of lively debate
From what I understand many of the synthetic ropes actually stretch less then wire rope does. All the reading I have done also shows the synthetic to be stonger.David
