Do I have a locked rear differential?

Hi everyone,

Pretty new to D3's so I was asking myself if I had a locked rear differential. I read on a topic here that if you put your car in rock crawl mode you'll get to see it. But I am still not sure. So I took a picture of my sat nav (on 4x4 display) when I putted it in rock crawl mode.

Thanks in advance,

and pray that I have it. Bow down Bow down Whistle

Try a search apparently all the D3 have the same 4x4 screen regardless whether diff lock fitted or not, only way to tell is feel on top of the diff housing for the elec actuator.
My screen is same as yours and my diff is open.

From my understanding, if it turns red, then you have a locking diff. Mine looks the same as yours, but I don't have a locking rear diff. Get onto some soft ground put it in lower range and rock crawl, then floor it, and see if it turns red.

Or take it off road and see if you can get the icon to turn orange. If it does you have a rear locking diff.

Get under your rear axle and look for the extra bit (item #4 in the image) sitting on top of your diff. It's not easy to spot as there is no direct line of site. If it has this then YES, if Not then No.

Fairly sure that if you stick your Disco into low range the rear diff (bottom of pic) will appear red with a locked symbol if you have a locking rear diff. If it stays green then you don't have a locking rear diff. What I deffo don't know is how you tell if you have a locking rear diff but its not working hence stays green.

You need to drive forwards or backwards a few feet for the diff to lock (hence my edit).

Is a locked rear diff worth having? I don't go off road much but I do tow a caravan across wet grass!

Anyone?

No. Thumbs Up

Never seen a D3/4 that has one go further than one that hasn't, in mud, sand, snow and whatever else is around.

As above, nobody needs an e-diff. It does not make a D3/D4 any more capable but in more challenging or extreme conditions it can make progress somewhat smoother.

With apologies for going off topic, is the Detection Pack worth having?

Surely a locking rear diff' will assist in cross-axle scenarios?
