United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Alveston RedDiscovery 3

i tried both with no luck, will try again this morning in an hour or so.

im not sure where the black wire for the DRL would go, and also another thing i noticed is that, i only connected to one side's LED strip and both worked so i didnt connect up the other side.

can anyone help with where the black wire for the DRL strip would go? is it another pin in the headlight plug?

thanks!

sounds like an issue with the black wire to me.

At the smog sensor connector, do you guys use the black/green wire or Orange/green ?

Tried both with no luck, I'm beginning to think it's the black wire too now, anyone have any idea where this should connect? A PIN number in the headlight socket? Or anywhere else I could connect it?
Thanks

I'm no expert on these, and maybe the person who sells them can help.
But as far as I know, you connect those 2 pin plugs to the LEDs

then red and black to the battery.

If the LEDs come on an stay on then it sounds like a fault.

You could try touching the ignition input to earth. This would ensure it thought the ignition was OFF.

i tried messaging them but they were like send me a picture of the fault Laughing Laughing so ive given up, gonna ask for another one since i took your option and tried connecting the ignition wire ( blue) to the battery - terminal and it didnt go off either. still remains on. so until someone can give me some advice on where to get the DRL's black wire to the LED strip, i will wait for the ebay seller's response and hope they can send another one to solve the issue.

thanks all,

please help if you can Smile

Hi,

These DRL you have, don't they come with 2 wires red (positive) & Black (negative) ?

You should then connect these wires to the floating wire you got with the DRL controller (with plug on the end). This then plugs into the DRL loom for each DRL.

DRL loom - Red to battery, black to earth, and blue to an ignition source (+12v)

Well thats how mine work and they look the same as in the photo you posted. I personally have one on my D3 V8 and it works a treat.

Let me know if I can help more maybe via PM if needed.

Hi Mark,

thanks for the reply!

the DRL im trying to use is actually the LED strip inside the 2014+ discovery 4 facelift so im confused where the black(negative) should go. I have managed to locate where the red goes, and it powers up the LED strip fine.

please let me know of any solutions.

as for now i am planning to just get a relay and have it turn off and on through the relay using ignition input.

thanks!

Arh. So its a LR LED you are trying to use?

And only connecting the red wire between the headlight and controller ?
That would explain it.

Could it be switching the negative, thus the positive side is just giving a constant feed?

exactly! its basically the side lights in the headlight which im trying to get to turn on with the ignition. and correct only one wire between headlight and controller.

im not sure where i would connect the black wire for the LED Strip, thats the only issue Rolling Eyes

i also tried connecting the black wire for the DRL into the battery - but still nothing, so i guess if nothing else, relay it is.

everyone says that the smog connector goes off a few seconds after removing key, and comes on with unlocking the car, so hopefully that would be good, i wanted the lights to stay on for 30 mins hence i got the DRL controller but if not then i guess just having the lights come on with ignition would be ideal.

thank you !

yeah just connect the DRL dirrect to the ignition.

only worry would be if they are too bright when indicating, but try it

to be honest ive driven since the past 8 months with them on while i signal, i think theyre ok. so i went down and tried the smog connector, but it stayed on completely even after 30 seconds of locking the car. i tried fuse f9,that came on with ignition, went off after like 15 seconds. thats good stuff, but i would much more prefer it if it came on when unlocking the car also, which it currently doesnt do and i believe the smog connector does that?

does anyone know which colour wire works for them from the smog connector?

thanks!

If this LED is inside the headlight it will use the common earth for all the bulbs, this could be your problem. I've not used the smog sensor so I can't comment on how long it is live for after ignition turn off.

However those DRL controllers I think add around 30s, mine stays on longer than that as the ignition live I have taken from my fusebox stays on at least 40-50s, so add another 30s for the controller too.

Maybe you should give it more time?
