just been to see a new HSE and tried to find out if enabling the tow electrics enables the hitch assist part of the reversing camera which shows the tow ball and likely direction it will take. so if any one has the definitive answer that would be Tintenter

On my 2013 it does. Its one of the 'special views' offered when you touch the screen. It puts a yellow line on the screen which you line up with the tow hitch on the caravan, as you get near, it auto zooms down and looks directly down on the tow ball. I find it works really well.
Unlike the tow assist system which needs the 3 dot sticker on the front of the caravan, which many have said is rubbish! I have never bothered with the sticker, as I can reverse a caravan anyway, I dont need assistance from the car!
The surround cameras have a trailer view which use the cameras under the mirrors to look back along the sides of the van, on a split screen display. Very useful when reverse turning on the blind side. Its a good quality picture on 2013, but saw DG's picture on his 2015 and it was nowhere near as good, so you really need to check it out and see if it is good enough for you?
Hope that helps

this HSE doesn't have the surround cameras only the single reverse camera and I am not convinced that it will have the hitch assist view available Tintenter

I don't know if it will. All you need to do is touch the screen when its in reverse, and see what options it gives.

I think it is too fiddly, it would be better if it went back to normal view after a time. But it is useful. Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

Hi all, we have a 2012MY HSE with tow electrics apparently all enabled ref parking sensors etc. However when engaging reverse nothing happens when we touch the reversing camera view on the touchscreen to help with hitching up. Previous posts imply that the view will switch to a zoom view to help hitching up - sounds useful - any ideas how to enable this functionality (it's a single reversing cam not surround cameras)

Have it on our MY11 XS - but it was part of the optional surround camera system. I find it very useful as I can hitch up first go on my own LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

Thanks for clearing that up folks. So if you don't have the surround cameras then you need a slight variation on the hitch assist version which involves ensuring you have a fixed droplate towbar so while you are practicing to get your hitch up perfected without leaving the leather clad warm of the seat you can gently nudge the droplate rather than the rear bumper! Still nice to be back in a disco - really missed air suspension on our fl2.

ON my 2011 XS with reversing camera can just see the top of the ball on the detachable tow bar. Dead handy.
If a lower bar just tape a marker sticking out from bumper when hitching up to guide you or have swmbo standing in the rain guiding you./ Discovery 4 HSE Montalcino Red
