Hitachi EAS Compressor

I have rebuilt the EAS compressor with new piston seals, "O" rings etc and before fitting to the car connected the unit to a slave battery.

The motor started instantly and air started to flow from the outlet on the front of the drier. However the air flow is mild and it is easy to place your finger over the outlet and keep it there. I was anticipating an ever increasing pressure considering the pressure required in the tank.

There is suction on the connector at the rear of the compressor.

Do I have a problem with a relief valve .

Any help gratefully received

Did you replace the exhaust valve when you rebuilt the compressor and did you replace the plastic desiccant cap with the aluminium version.

Having said all that when I rebuilt mine I could keep my finger over the outlet and in the car the compressor works fine.

Hi Gary

I did not replace the exhaust valve during my rebuild of the compressor and I shall now investigate this component a little further. The kit that I used for the rebuild did include an aluminium cover to the filter chamber.

It is interesting that you experienced the same low air flow from the outlet following the rebuild and I wonder whether the the deflation of the system, prior to starting the stripdown, causes the exhaust valve to remain open until the system is reflated. I will put the compressor on the car and find out.

Yes connect the compressor to the pipes (you only need to do the pipes in the aluminium cap) and plug it in - dont bother bolting it in and see if it raises OK and no codes before going to bolt it all in.

If there is an issue with the exhaust you should get code C1a20? - gallery is slow to fill - either a leak in the compressor, tank, or a faulty exhaust valve.

Do mean that the exhaust maybe sticking open?

Yes it can do particularly where the desiccant has broken down and the powder can stop valves in the system from closing - hence it is important to clean out the system when the desiccant is changed.
