I did try with the DSC on and off a couple of times; it made no noticeable difference so I left it on. Do you think it should have helped? What difference should it have made?

I didn't know about the epb switch trick; If there's still any ice left tomorrow I might try it, but as Guy said, all the loverly stuff is going away Big Cry In my case though I didn't need the epb on the slope anyway, as once I'd cut tyre shaped holes in the ice there was (just) enough of a chock to hold the car. I had to use reverse or rock the car to start to roll backwards.

Guy, no I was on an unclassified road heading south out of Wanborough. I chose it 'cos it's very little used and I knew I was getting stuck on purpose. The main road through Wanborough has a vehicles prohibited access only sign at each end, but the minor/unclassified roads don't Whistle

By the way, I'm in no doubt whatsoever that the car would have driven up the entire road without a single drama had I not stopped. It certainly did the second and third times Thumbs Up

how do you suggest turning it off then? Wink

DSC - you know what I mean Wink
So it didn't make any difference - I've got too many buttons to press & not enough snow!

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Cairns BlueDiscovery 3

I was doing the same and found GGS low 2nd best (manual with winter tyres).

My only problem was when I stopped to try again.

Stationary with my foot on the foot brake about to put the EPB on when the Front of the car started to slide...
-45 degrees
--90 degrees - rear started to go too
---180 degrees - tobogganing

Used the verge/bank to get me down with some sort of control Embarassed Embarassed

Take care when practicing - we can be at the limit of physical possibilities....

I think turning DSC off might have helped in the cases where you said power was being sent side to side. interesting experiment though Dom, well done for posting your results. I had a long reverse down a hill in the snow and ice and low ratio with HDC on was fantastic, although HDC only cut in once or twice as engine breaking did 99% of the work. Car was awesome, very very controlled and gave me every confidence in it.
