Got to agree Gareth, a tad slow in its standard form but pretty reliable even so
Oil pump bolt falling off on early engines, head gaskets blowing as the head shuffles sideways allowing the valves to damage the cylinder bores again on early engines, both fixed on the post 2002 engines, then you have injectors leaking on their internal passageways, heads cracking, exhaust manifolds warping on all td5 engines then forgetting the engine really severe chassis rot.
I would say the 200tdi is one of the greatest lr engines of all times.
200tdi slow
300tdi as slow but quieter
td5 better but still slow
All three of the above abysmal in auto form, really really bad

They just make the best of everything they have.

When you have a 2.25 petrol Series 2a to compare with, a TD5 90 is a bit nippy! 💨

I agree, my D2 TD5 manual was a tractor until I had it re-mapped. Completely different motor, better mpg even if towing and it could keep up with traffic.

Bought a 93 300 auto some years ago and the throttle was basically an on/off switch, I did get it tuned and intercooled and it was actually a pretty decent flying machine until the inj pump went wrong!

Is this really any cheaper than Ebay or gumtree?
At least you can try before you buy in the majority of cases. I've always thought auctions were for the back street dealers or DIY mechanics.2014 D4 XS

Dealer I bought my car from told me all their problem cars go to the auction block.
