High Lift vs Exhaust Jack for lifting
Being a former Defender owner I am a big High Lift fan - jacking points everywhere! However, in the absence of suitable jacking points on D3 where you could use a High Lift I'm thinking of switching to an Exhaust Jack.
I have zero experience of using one of these at all. Does anyone else use one and if so in your opinion is it a decent replacement for a high lift off road.
I'd be really keen to hear your replies inc what model you have, how much clearance it gives and how quick it is to inflate and how reliable once inflate.

I use an exhaust jack when off roading with my defender but I use it from my air compressor, far safer than a high lift but takes up a lot of room,

Looks like air jack way forward then.
How long does it take to fill from a compressor? I guess you mean a t-max type single or double cylinder one is it?

About 3 or 4 mins from my Viar, but if you're using it in anger then you're not in a rush. As with all things, practise makes perfect. Better to find the best place for it (front and rear) on the drive rather than up to your knees in mud when it's sheeting it down and blowing a hoolie. Used mine many times, if anything other than very quick wheel off/wheel on then axle stand(s) are a must. And don't forget the park brake.

I use mine with the compressor that works my locking diffs, takes around 2 mins to lift the car

I carry both. Use the Hi Lift to change wheels, and exhaust jack where the Hi Lift is not practical.

Funniest thing I ever saw.
Morocco 2010, In the dunes near Erg Chebbi. Defender rolled a tyre off the rim, and needed jacking. In the soft sand, an air jack was the only option.
Jack was placed and engine started. Operative (AlexE on here) proceeded to hold the pipe into the the Defender exhaust.
It was a hot day, and we were struggling on a side slope. Alex lost his footing as the car was about halfway up. He let go of the pipe and got a face full of soot! Proper black and white minstrel effect

I use a lift mate, like this - https://www.devon4x4.com/lift-mate.html and chock the wishbone with blocks of wood I carry. This keeps the car very level, which can be safer.
I also have a homemade attachment to lift on the rock sliders if I have to.
I also carry a X-Jack, which I'll use in certain conditions. It depends on the situation I'm in, as how to jack the car up safely.
I don't really like jacking on the chassis/rock sliders, as you have to raise the car quite high thereby changing the centre of gravity, for the wheels to get off the ground. It really depends on the situation you are in, as it's not always practical to get the car to level ground before you can change a wheel.
