HID Kit and Upgrade bulbs
I want to get n upgrade for my 58 plate Disco 3. The HIDS4U web site does not show a kit for this model, it has "up to 07" and then "09 on" options, but not my year!!
I expect I need an H7 Ultimate kit for a reflector light. I want maximum vision rather than a styling effect, so would choose 5000K colour temperature.
I also want some brighter and more colour matched bulbs for the main beam. I was going to choose the Ring Xenon Max.
Am I on the right lines? Would you recommend anything different?

Did this ever get done? Would be interested in seeing the mentioned photos of the installation before commiting to going this route myself...

Hi. not sure why 08 is missing as D3 should be up to 2009. But yes you are right we recommend the H7R Ultimate kit - 5000K is pure white no blue. I would go for the brand new 55w ultimate kit in fact these ballasts dont fit inside the headlamps but could be attached to the underside of the headlamp in the place the OEM ballast would go. then a 25mm hole throught to the inside using grommet provided and youre away
Its a very easy fit - H7R fits in same way as original H7 and the plug that pushes onto the original H7 is used to feed the ballast - with 2 male spades pushing striaght into them.
The ring ones are also less white - but both the philips and ring have more light output than the ice blue ones
so for colour go for ice blue - for more light go for the philips x-treme vision plus and for a compromise between colour and output go for philips blue vision

I have written an article on fitting these lamps, which should be in print by March, however heres the fitted unit on the base of the lamps.
The most difficult bit was pushing the forward of the two ballast retaining set screw through as my figures are not long enough.

CG: I take it you didn't just stick the ballasts on with the supplied double-sided tape then? How did you attach them? Did you use self-tappers or did you drill holes and attach nuts & bolts? Any advice gratefully received before I get stuck in with this (kit arrived today)...2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

Are the HIDS4U halogen upgrades going to fail the MOT or the LED side lights ? Should I be looking for my old bulbs prior to the test ? Or am I getting my wires crossed ?
Surprised not to have seen a comment from Hids4U - or maybe the excellent product (which i have installed) meet the requirements due to lack of glare ???
lurk Why do I have 2 big hands when my D3 maintenance requires small hands and at least three of them ?
I used small nut and bolts, I'll post up some more pics tonight when I at home, I do not have the images on here

If you have air suspension and headlamp washers you're fine
EDIT: Actually, not so sure. There is a requirement for self levelling, which is fulfilled by the car suspension. There is a requirement for headlamp washing, which is ok if you have the washers fitted. But not sure about the lens/lamp combo?I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

ND your edit is correct, they fall down on the fact the lens/light unit are not marked to ECE98 and e-marked, which can only be done by the headlamp supplier - source DOT
