HID Xenon Spot Lamp Mod
Having fitted the genuine accessory spot lamps to the a-bar of the new motor, It soon became apparent i had wasted my time fitting them. Fitted with 55w halogens they looked dim and yellow compared to the xenon headlamps and the xenon roof lights.
I ordered a HID xenon 35w upgrade kit to match the standard xenon output
I was going to take pics of the install as i went along...... Drill in one hand and a Beer in the other
The finished lamp.
I'll try and take some pics of them fitted tomorrow. Lamps are now as effective as the xenon headlamps and are the same whiter colour.

I did consider upgrading the bulbs but a lot of the "performance" lamps dont last long. With a true HID you should get a better range of light as its brighter by design. For example the 35w i fitted are probably half as bright again than a 100w halogen.
a chart that illustrates the distribution of illumination in 35 watt HIDs (well thats what it said on one of those internets )

Gareth I was going to ask exactly the same thing. But I doubt it. Due to the style of bulb we have in there and the way it's mounted. Without stripping it down I couldn't be 100% sure thoughHONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Should work in lightforce lamps depends on the lamp type. Available in H4,H1, H3, H7 or H11 fitments. Ballast can always be mounted remotely if required.
They are the 35W 5000k temp i have used with a slimline waterproof ballast and igniter. I find them to be a very close match to the original.
To quote....
"Original HID lamps on the D3 are 4300K. OEM HIDs in the D3 are designed with dichroic projector lamps that split the colour of the HID light. That's why from some angles (particularly close to the cutoff) the OEM HIDs look blue (beyond 6000K) and from other angles they look as yellow as halogen lights (3000K). The bulk of the light they throw forward however is around 5000K. When you convert a OEM halogen light to HID, you will not have a dichroic projector lamp specifically designed for HIDs. Therefore to get a similar colour to the OEM HIDs, you need to use 5000 or 6000K. If you choose 4300K, WITHOUT having a dichroic projector light unit, you will end up with a yellowy beam."

Bill WrightNever take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
Hey Gareth,
Not sure if you know, but LightForce now sell 170 Striker with HID... and also sell the conversion kits. I haven't seen any prices yet. I notice on FleaBay, a lot of other "shops" selling the alloy heatsink/globe holders as a part of conversion... only part of the solution.
Cheers,
Rob

Yes I have noticed this too. They probably will be quite pricey.
