Help with retro fit LR reverse camera

Hi All,

I'm fitting a genuine Land Rover reverse camera to my 2012 Disco 4 XS.

I ordered part numbers LR021100 - Micro switch and LR015458 - tailgate loom as per thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/d4-xs-wirin...p;start=30

I didn't order the camera as I found one on the bay (advertised as Land Rover Discovery 4 Reversing Camera AH22-19G490-AE) but no LR part number.

Today I started to fit it and (yes I know I should've tried all the connections first Rolling Eyes) I got to the camera wire connecting to the loom which doesn't fit.

Clearly the camera I bought is the wrong one and I'll probably have to return it.

I've hopefully added the pictures of the two cable connections I have below. The camera came with a cable and the two are completely different connections. The connections are different between the camera and the cable and between cable to cable. Hope that makes sense!?

Does anyone know if there is an adaptor for me to be able to join the two connectors together? I have no idea of the proper names so can't do a search online for any connector.

If I can get a connector then job done, if not maybe someone on here might want it for what I paid, just in case I can't return it? Not sure what model Disco it's actually for, they said off a 2013?

Sorry for the long post.

Your cars loom cable which terminated in female terminal is a FAKRA cable. My understanding is that all D4’s of a 2012 vintage connect the image of the camera up to this.

A brown FAKRA is already in the vehicles head lining from the top of the rear boot to the rotary knob of the year selector.

You therefore need another rear camera, a loom that connects power and images from the camera and incidentaly provides power for the tailgate switch etc. Another loom that connects to the FAKRA at the top of the rear boot and finally a pigtailed female to female FAKRA to connect the existing FAKRA that terminates to the passenger side of the rotary gear knob and connect it to the back to the SatNav screen. Then you’ll need it enabled by you local Indy LR garage who has an Autologic machine.

Hi,

I've got the loom and the new microswitch already and have fitted that.

I'm a bit perplexed with the camera as that was advertised as fitting. Wish there was a connector to join the two together as that would make life easy. Looks like I'll be swapping the camera then.

Wonder what part number it actually is?

Hi,

Not sure if I've not been clear in my original post.

I'm wondering if anyone can name the connections in the pics below with a view that I may be able to connect the two cables together without having to change the camera.

One is a fakra? The ohmther I have no idea?

If I can find a joining cable then that will solve it. But I don't know what to search for.

There should only be a power pos and neg and two for the av lead.
It looks as though it's only a 4 pin plug too so it can't be that hard.
Can't you rig up a test lead and temporary screen?

I am pretty sure your camera is off a Range Rover. The connector could be a C3443 or a C3346. I am reasonably sure they don’t make an FAKRA adaptor for it.

The white connector on the switch loom should plug directly into the camera.

This thread may help.

The camera looks like this

(wallet says ouch!)

"Wallet says ouch" is why I thought I'd struck gold when I saw the camera on eBay. Laughing

I got the two wiring looms off LRparts.net at a reasonable price.

There must be a few variants of the rear "fixed" reversing camera as Gogle images throws up a green socket and a white one. I have the green one and need the white one.

What a pain in the preverbial.

If I can't return the camera then I could be tempted to cut the plug off and solder it, but I'd want to get an extension lead for the white plug off the wiring loom so I don't cut the actual loom.

Anyone know the name of the white plug with the coax and power going to the pins?

I think you have the 2014 on camera, the one with the later guiding lines.
You need a different tailgate loom and I suspect a different rear door handle, as your base on the camera is bigger and slides in.
The newer tailgate loom has a fakra connector for the roof and the correct pin connector for the other end.
HTH

You have the surround system camera, it's from a D4 but isn't the one you need unfortunately.

This is the little blighter you need unless you intend to install the camera unit under the passenger seat; which I would suggest isn't worth the bother.

Cheers guys,

I've sourced the correct camera and fitted it yesterday. Thumbs Up

I'm in the process of trying to send the other one back via eBay.

I've got a spare fakra cable for the bit that joins the screen to the connector below the gear selector if anyone is after one. I put an offer in on eBay, couldn't wait for a response, so bought another and then won the offer. D'oh!

I enabled it on the iid tool but wasn't sure which setting it was. Park camera or park assist camera?

I've enabled both and it works, but would rather make sure the settings are spot on if anyone knows which is the correct one?

And for the chap monitoring the post, it's rather easy to do following the guides on here.

Cheers

Jim
