Hi guys
I had a strange noise yesterday. Under hard excelleration, from about 2,500 rpm a load screeching sound from engine. It sounds like a fanbelt or bearings?
Any ideas?
Baben, you mentioned something when you loaded the TT map that you can hear my fan belt? 2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

It could just be that the fan belt is a bit loose and screeches or
the idler/tensioner pully bearings are going, there are posts here
of bearings being replaced. Here's a diagram to help spot them.

Holding thumbs that it is not the turbo on its way out
That was the noise I experienced when the 2nd turbo went on my D3. Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

I had the same thing last week, mine developed to a blow, it was the manifold link pipe, cost £ 350 for the part and the only way we could do it was take the box out, it's been said on here it has been done with it in but we found it impossible
Took us 6 hours and isn't a nice job. Main dealer quoted about £600 but I think that was with me supplying the pipe, hope it is only your belts need tensioning, fingers crossed for you.

Hey DJ
is the sound a whistling sound starting around 1900 RPM. If it is; and I hope you are under warranty; your cross over pipe has gone.
If not under warranty; take lots of cash (R 11000 k +) and go to the stealers for 10 days for them to replace the pipe.
Had exactly the same symptoms on my TDV6 HSE after replacing the turbo.
Am now having alternator problems now. Alternator died and am trying to tie this back to the replacement pipe.
As soon as I hve this problem sorted .... bye bye Landrover .... Hello something else

Went yesterday to my local friendly auto electrician who checked the system and declared the alternator is not charging.
He instilled me with a great deal of confidence when he asked me to point out the position of the alternator as he did not know where it was. (WTF)
He then promptly got on the phone to get a price for a new alternator. He got a price of R 4900 from his buddy!?!
On getting home I decided to chance it and phone Waterford. They quoted me a genuine LR part at a price of R 4200 + VAT. He then went on to ask why I wanted a new one when a recon costs R 2700. I got excited and asked if he had any in stock. His reply was no - we only get in stock when someone brings in one to be reconed.
Do I now use a small gun to shoot myself in the foot or what
If you can find a recon place for the new alternator I would be most grateful!!!

Alternator not charging does not necessarily mean a new/recon unit is needed. It might be that only the brushes are shot....not expensive at all.
