Help: maximum roof loading options

Hi All

In August’s I will be doing a 500mile round trip with a fully loaded Disco (7seats). It’s for a week long holiday and I don’t really want to take a trailer. What options have I to maximise roof space I have so far looked at the biggest roof box I can get but I think it will still be tight.

How do other people load their roofs?

Cheers

Check the manual, but isn’t the max roof loading 70kg?

there's a Thule box that clips on the towball as an alternative.

I had a huge boot box which we used for skiing trips (might explain my lack of control on the slopes... Very Happy ) , which hung off the tow hitch. Skis went in the roof box and bulky lighter stuff like bedding and clothes went in the box. Was a life and load saver for the six of us in one car. Great thing is not being limited to mororway lanes & speeds - though parking and loading on eurotunnel took some thought.

Mine was a 'drop-on box', though I can't find a website any more. I sourced the kit from two separate places - the frame was very simple and could also take bales of hay supposedly, or bikes, and the box I held on with D-clamps. Size is probably around 200l and the flat top made an ideal table for preparing lunch & changing nappies etc. Not usually at the same time. . Definitely worth considering.
