is an MOT tester allowed to test their own private vehicle?

You know the vehicle isn't roadworthy, so in reality you shouldn't be driving it anyway.

Trading standards. Don't hesitate, don't delay, just get on it first thing.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Good Luck, but why did it have a MOT on 11th Jan, and then 12th Jan? Both passed, but then on the 12th it had a advisory about the EML??

Either way don’t leave it too long before doing something, the longer you do you the more dissolved your argument becomes Thumbs Up .

I think trading standards will say that you have to give the garage a chance to rectify any problems if they offer. As this is classed as a reasonable response. I had the exact same thing and that’s what they told me. The garage had my car for over a month! They did however fix all the problems in the end.

I know it doesn’t help but I think it’s the first option to take. Then I believe you can go down the rejection route.

Letter of intention to reject has to be written to start the ball rolling.

Not sure about the second MOT test to add the advisory.

If it was me and this is only my opinion I would return it immediately and get my money back (if that is possible) then start again. In the long run it will be less stress than arguing the toss with this garage going back and from all the time. Get rid, there are plenty more out there. As pointed out earlier in this thread a good place to start is the classifieds on here. Good luck fella Thumbs Up

That's as maybe but if they are dealing in dodgy MOT's then its a more serious matter.
Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

Another worry is about how nasty the bloke can get, he knows my address.

… and you know where his garage is !

Took you a 5 hour trip to get there. I wouldn't worry about him.
