Help, what engine part is this?
why is this making a fan like noise after the engine is turned off?

It's because it is cooling down having been running whilst you were driving.

I just thought it was strange that it has never made a noise after the engine was off, until today. So you are all telling me this is normal?

think its to do with outside temperature...starts up when it gets colder weather 5 or 7 degrees I think
