HELP - Auto box juddering and revs surging under power |
|
i recently bought a 2.7 tdv6 hse auto on an 05 plate , there is a slight judder / wobble which appears to come from the box / drive train. it only happens at low revs when accelerating. ive also notice that the revs bounce from 1500 to 2000 rpm when accelerating in 3rd / 4th gear if more throttle is given the box will kick down and clear. its only when you hold it at the right revs or are idiling along and then press the accelerater slightly to increase speed or you hit an incline.
the vehicle has main dealer fsh and as covered 85k
any ideas ? thanks

What mileage is yours? Almost certainly requires a double flush of the gearbox oil. Expensive if you get LR to do it but you can get oil from a sponsor on here or another sponsor do a service to "transfuse" the oil.
Search for +double +flush for more info.
It's a well known issue with the Auto boxes when they get to a certain age, it's easily solved though. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Depends how long you have had the D3....................Dont forget the Auto boxes are adaptive, and get used to the owners driving, might just need to be flashed or reset.

Adaptive they maybe but who's driving style requires the revs to drop when they try and put their foot down. I don't think getting the box reset will make any difference.
I bet the car is around 70k + miles and needs the transmission flushing. It's a known issue with a known solution. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Would be polite to say hello and introduce themselves though, rather than HELP now!!!!!!!
We all will help as soon as we can, but its 22:38 and theres not alot we can do. My main advice is to take it back from where he bought it if they have only just got it...

You could quite well be right Stu, bu that costs money and time, why not try disconnecting the battrey allowing everything to go to factory settings, its free, and you just dont know it could work.

It won't work Mac....yes he could try it, but I think that by now we should all recognise these symptoms and know the fix
The OPs auto box needs the oil changing....this behaviour is nothing to do with adaptive learning or anything else - the gearbox oil is knackered and it needs replacing to fix it. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I am also having this problem been quoted £300 from a Local Dealer to complete the Double Flush, the LR Oil is almost £190 itself for 10 Litres which I have been told will be enough to complete the double flush.
However I have been reading alot of the threads on here some of which use the following oil:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60247-millers-...tf-dm.aspx
I filled out the online form on the Millersoil website and it also gave me the option for this oil for the Auto Gearbox has anyone had any experience using this oil in the gearbox, local garage is happy enough to do the work if I can supply the oil and this seems to be much more keenly priced than the LR Stuff, so whats the difference?

10 litres isn't enough to do a double flush of the Auto Box. ISTR that it's 16litres for a full double flush.
The MillersOils stuff has been used by some on here with positive feedback. I kno wthat there was a LOT of research done by forum members to get an alternative to LR oil and Millers came up trumps
If LR are doing it, get them to make sure they change the Autobox sump filter on the second flush too Bodsys Brake Bible
