Can't answer the specific questions you pose, but I loved my XF as a drivers car but he D4 HSE is still a nice place to be sat in. You will not be disappointed although the XF will be more fun when the summer arrives - whatever day that is !2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

I know I'll be loosing some of the refinements of an XF. Hard drive sat nav camera leather etc. but the disco3 was one of the most versatile cars I've owned. Maybe that would out weigh what I loose

I had one of the first XFs in 08 (i think) then went to a Volvo XC60 and now await my D4 XS. I would have gone GS but i wanted the sat nav and screen etc. it's a clever bit of pricing to make certain stuff just not available on the GS which for me made it XS or HSE. It was a close run thing to go XS in the end as i found myself adding extras, but in the end i think I came in about 4 grand less than the HSE i'd have specced.
Now I'm obsessed with delivery times - do let us know what you get quoted!!

Judging by the new pad, I'd say a FFRR was more in keeping!

Dave, try to get one with the SatNav, then you can add timed climate, 4x4 info screen (if it doesnt have it already) etc
Otherwise you can add
Cruise Control
Remote Parking Heater (remote only)
Heated Steering wheel
Chirp on Lock/Unlock
BT PTI
Xenons
I'm sure there's some other bits, but this is just off the top of my headBodsys Brake Bible

Don't say that, he'll want to keep it!
Just noticed you're still sat in the car
I still think a 1-2 year old XS will be a comfier place than a new GS coming from the XF

I like the black pack but don't want to pay factory prices.... How much is the black grille and vents? Or is it better to paint them?
Simon (Slimer) one here sells the Black Grill and Side Vents and he has the best price that I have found. He has other stuff to complete the Black Pack look (e.g. extended roof rails)
