height sensors d3/range rover sport 320

hi
i have purchased two rear height sensors for a range rover sport 320 2006 listed as left and right and are compatible for my D3
on receiving the sensors they were not marked left or right and not coloured coded in anyway and i believe they are the same and fit either left or right side of the vehicle.
after fitting we have had no end of problems with the range rover with the car sitting on the bump stops we can raise the suspension with the iid tool and lower the suspension with the iid tool and the information will not be saved and an error occurs.
the debate is that the rear sensors are fitted incorrectly ie the left should be swapped to the right and right to the left i argue as there is no definitive markings on the sensors showing left or right they can not be fitted wrong.
i have attached the fault code fro the idd tool for reference the only faults that are actually showing on the car

The engineering part numbers should be etched into the body of the sensor, if they are genuine

They can both be fitted to the wrong sides, but neither would cause a module/calibration error

thanks
there are no individual part numbers on the actual sensors but they are listed as different part numbers by the last digit plus one ie 123457 123459 i have looked at several well more than several sensors from different sellers and all are listed left and right with different part numbers but when looking at the pictures for identification numbers in close up there are not any indication to which is right or left ,i have also read that some are coloured coded but cannot find any and when i found some with identification marks the cost was over £350 a pair yes not a misprint but £350 a pair.
That was the most important information you gave me was that would not cause a calibration error
thank you very much

I have a set of 4 under part No. LR020534

after typing all this I googled the LR part number and of course the numbers are listed on the Advanced Factors Website

Once you have recalibrated the suspension, you need to re-enable it.
Otherwise the red dash light remains on and the suspension doesn't work

That is what code "failure - deactivated" is telling you.

Can't remember exactly.

It's quite obvious when you know you need to go and do it.

sensors

hi pete
i have managed to get the red suspensions lights off,and still failed to get the suspension sorted.
The front still rises to its maximum and the message appears "if clear of obstacle reset the suspension".[with no warning lights]
i have tested all the valves with the iid tool and all work as they should, the front and rear rise when using the iid tool and when un-linking the front from the rear and visa versa the suspension rises up and down as it should.
I have successfully completed the raising and lowering of all corners, and correctly raised the suspension on all corners to the correct height 461 mm i believe on the front and 468 mm on the rear [well dam near as possible for the purpose of getting the suspension working as it should as the exact setting can be applied when the suspension operates as it should] i have stored the settings on the iid tool as setting one,i also think that i have enabled it as well.
i was wondering as you mentioned you had a set of genuine land rover sensors would, you be willing to sell them as they are the same as the range rover sport 3200 as i believe as you mentioned as the rear sensors were aftermarket that we fitted perhaps this could be the crux of the problem we are encountering.
i am going to start from scratch again to tomorrow .
thanks
pete (yes same as yours)

ps when i went to drive the care after setting all for corners to the correct height and saved it and enabled it on the iid tool the car was not as it should and felt like i was driving over bloody great rocks and very un-driveable

any advise as always is welcome

I can’t understand how the height sensors can effect ride unless it’s a previous problem that’s been masked.

If you have had air struts removed you may like to read follow this thread

There has been no change of air struts just the fitting of rear height sensors and things have gone wrong since then.
They were replaced as the previous owner had suspension problems with the car suddenly dropping down on the bump stops and after reading on this forum and other advice it was suspected that the rear right sensor was the cause after changing the sensor the car suspension went tits up for a better word

Wiring failure to sensors is another possibility.
Check for fault codes now it’s working
And monitor 4x4 info on center display if you have that. (See If one wheel appears to move significantly / suddenly ) or shows red bar

Height sensors

My amber 'suspension fault' has appeared on the dash. The 4X4 screen shows the rear left hand side wheel all over the place. It goes high up then totally collapses on the screen - do you think it is just a case of sensor replacement? I'm contemplating putting coils in each corner.
