heavy steering after deep puddle

Left my house this morning and within 100m had to drive through a large puddle/flood that forms at the bottom of my lane after heavy rain..... so like a responsible adult I gunned the 2nd half of it to see how much water I could get over the hedge Very Happy

100m later I slow down for the junction onto the main village road and the steering goes heavy for an instant...then back to normal again...

was this probably a slipping belt due to water?

Do the guys who ford rivers etc get this symptom?

Spot on - happened to me couple of years ago in the Lakes after going through some serious flooded roads - incredibly heavy steering, a squeal and then all normal - never happened since
