Heating is useless in the D4!!!

So once the car is fully warmed up, I find that even at '28' setting, the heating blows near cool air into the cabin, when I move it to high it turns ' Censored ' hot (MY15 HSE Lux by the way)

Drove 4 hrs yesterday (2x 2hr drives) and all I could do was set it at high on single fan level, then switch it all off until I got cold, then back on again until I got too hot, and so on, and so on, and so on!

FBH is fine as i'd preset it for 6am yesterday and cabin was nice and warm when I got it Thumbs Up

In my opinion the temp reading can't be right in the cabin, and as such it seems that setting is at coll (21 or 22) when you've got it at 28

Is this a known issue, still under warranty so take it back?

Thought appreciated Thumbs Up

Is this is Auto mode on the AC or manual mode?

Have you got anything covering the interior temperature sensor, next to the column, or the sun load sensor in the middle of the dash board? If those two sensors are picking up incorrect information they might be over compensating.

I found that in Auto mode it goes cold after a while, but in manual mode is stays ok, just select all the vents (Face, Feet and Screen) and a low fan speed once warm it should be ok.

Mines been back three times, last time with so called top tech on electrics/computers, he said that's how they are set up at manufacture. The steppers were reset but nothing changed.
Just recently it actually worked like you would expect, just the ounce though, now back to feet warm body cold!

Strangely, mine was fine sitting at 21 until this week when I have had to select 23 or higher not to feel it's blowing cold. All i can think is it's the wrong combination of lots of sunlight but quite nippy temperature outside?

Mine is ok most of the time Iggy. 2013, and it’s usually left on 23 degrees both sides and it’s comfy.

However, I keep a small voltmeter/temp reader plugged into the accessory socket, and sometimes the temp shoots up, and it starts blowing cold out the face vents. Usually this happens when the sun comes out!

I think the sunlight sensor is over sensitive on these cars. If I get cold I will override the settings, deselect the face vents, and manually control the fan speed.

So long as your outside temp reading is accurate, there’s probably not a lot you can do.

Iggy, there was a big thread here a while back that LR deemed to be "as designed" in the later years Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

My 63 Plate D4 has been as reliable as your old D3 on that front - stick on 21 all year round Thumbs Up

my MY16 is also useless when on Auto. I now leave it in manual with all the vent positions "on", at least that way I get warm air out of all of them and not warm out of some and freezing cold out of others.

Never had any problems with my MY2014. As a Luddite I use it on manual all the time. Adjust temp and fan and vents as needed. Whistle

With my MY11 I find it pretty much the same as the D3. Only oddity I noticed yesterday was with the fan level on manual it would occasionally pick up a bit, then drop down to where it was set after a while. No change in outside temps (2c one time & 5c another) or sun (was cloudy). Confused

It’s -22 outside, I’ve got the D3 climate on 19 degrees on both sides and it’s most of the time quite comfortable inside. I’ve had it on 19 or 20 since I got the car. It doesn’t fog from the inside when it rains or snows. That being said somehow the climate system isn’t as good as the Volvo’s. Sometimes if one turns it off (mine makes a sound when it is cold and dry starting up, haven’t bothered yet to figure out how to grease the blower) and back on it behaves completely differently before/after.

Do you need engine block heaters at those temps? Question
