I always had mine set to 28, but have changed things around last few days, now set at 21 and I'm leaving it there on Auto to see if anything changes - short runs only so far, but does seem to be performing a bit better

Afraid I disagree. Mine is usually set to 21 in the winter and 19 in the summer, on auto. I rarely adjust at all once I've set off. The reality is that in a 15 or 16 MY if you set off with it set to 21 and it's cold outside, an hour later and you will be cold inside, having not adjusted anything for the duration.

It's the complete opposite to my 2010 D4 in which the heating worked perfectly. I used to go months on end without ever touching any of the heating controls.

My 03/15 behaves just like my 03/10, never change the settings all year round. Either something changed after 03/15 or there is a fault in your car....

My probelm is even worse - my missus has always complained abou the heating (or lack of) in my MY16. Even though it is a problem (see my previous post) I have always told her is was fine - Now I am having to admit it is crap, so not only cold but sore ears from her banging on about how she was right all along Rolling Eyes

I fear that I may also be suffering From the s**t unpredictable uncontrollable and dam right useless heating, on auto the heat goes cold after a wile, when done manually I get lovely warm air from center face vent and lukewarm to cold from center drivers side, Constantly adjusting heat control up & down as wont stay at a cosy middle ground. Not sure the heating on my 2012 D4 is as good or stable as my old FL2 but it isn’t as random as some are experiencing.
I’d suggest that anyone having real problems get something like a USB temperature data logger. You can get them for about £25. Worth it to give you real data and confirm your suspicions one way or another.
Put it in the car and record your trips for a few days. Keep a record of the settings and any changes you make.
Read the data off on your computer. You’ll then have a real time record that you can take and show the dealer. It will show any significant fluctuations in temperature or show that it is you that is being ‘tricked’ into think it getting progressively colder.

Problem is where LR just say that the heating is working to design intent. As asked earlier, I wonder what the designers were smoking. Rolling Eyes

If you have real independently gathered data rather than opinion and then they either continue to say 'design intent' which shows how their product really is deficient. That will get broadcast widely quickly colouring customer opinion, so, they have to accept design intent was wrong, or they accept there is a real problem and design intent wasn't implemented quite how they expected.
Unless you have that data they will keep saying - no problem.

Until they want to fix it you can present all the data you want and they'll still do nothing. Widely broadcast, like on here? Look at their attitude to failed cranks. And with the D4 being an old model I'd bet a hairy winegum to a half drunk can of flat Coke Zero that they have absolutely no interest in fixing it. They have bigger fish to fry. Thumbs Up

It depends on how you construct and present your argument.
I agree - Just posting on here won't achieve anything. A concerted well constructed and executed internet plan would be far more damaging. You just need the skills to put that together. If they get the hint you can do that their tune will change. They rely on the fact that no single person can create a publicity firestorm for them.
However, you can do nothing if you don't have the data. When you have that you have a little more power.

LR read this forum, do you not think it gets reported back.
they have already washed their hands of it, how many have been taken back and get the same stock reply "working as intended".
I have taken mine back three times up to now and have involved LR customer relations, still got the same "works as intended"

Of course LR read this forum. But they won't be scared in any way by what gets said here.
They certainly won't want to do anything as a consequence.
They will just keep batting opinions away because they can. That's how big business works.
Divide and conquer!

Recently took my 16MY for service at main dealer, complained about the mad heating behaviour and directed them to following service bulletin. I also commented regards strong FBH fume smell in cabin upon first starting engine in morning.

https://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...B00908.pdf

Service dept came back and said above bulletin is no longer on LR system, and that fume smell is normal. They said however that done HVAC update on car. Have found the heating now much improved and pleasant enough cabin environment in auto mode, plus no fume FBH smells on start.

Not sure what specific update works done but car seems better.

Monitored the temperature today in the centre of the cabin for over 200 miles (ok - it was on a non-calibrated probe which will be the LR get out).

When I started the temp was set at 21C but wouldn't get above 19.0C. 15 miles and no change - had plenty of time to warm up.
With both sides then nudged up to 22C, the temperature rose and then measured at its lowest 22.9C and was frequently up at 23.7C even up to 24.1C and never once coming down close to 22C
Calibrated and logging probe next - just to understand how its working.
