Heater issue

Hi peeps. I’ve read a few threads about heaters blowing cold on one side and wonder if I have a blocked matrix or a motor flap issue. The passenger side blows warm and the drivers hot.

Is it worth trying the back flush method first? Should I use a cleaning agent? Also, what coolant do I need to top up with? Is it oat that has to come from land rover?

I had a chance to check today, but not to flush.

When I set both heater controls to low, the blend motors show maximum cold, but when on hot only show intermediate.

Is this right? I would assume it should show maximum hot or something of the like and intermediate anywhere in-between. With the air con on the passenger side blows cold when on hot, luke warm when ac is off. Driver side seems ok but not as hot as id like.

Im assuming that both blend motors are not fully actuating, passenger worse than driver.

Is there a self test calibration function like on the d3.

Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Can some one please confirm which hose is the inlet and which is the outlet, and if indeed these are the hoses??? They will be a right Censored to get to.

I'm pretty sure the inlet is the drivers side of the 2 hoses but should be able to feel them warm up to prove it.

Not had the problem yet but it appears always to be cool on passenger side when matrix is silting up on both D3 & D4 from reading post over the years.


Certainly worth a go at back flushing but people have managed to change the matrix ok I believe.

Just an update, I flushed the heater matrix both ways, with cold then hot water. I used a rad cleaning solution and flushed several times with fresh water and compressed air. Got quite a bit of crap out.

Works much better now.

Appreciate this thread is pretty old now, but just looking to see how you did the flush on the heater matrix! Can't find any decent youtubes on it anywhere!

Hi Nathan,

No intention of stepping on the OP's toes.

I recently flushed mine with remarkable success.

I used a commercial product by Airboy called a Jet Flusher that used a mix of water and compressed air. Have seen home made solutions on this forum that appear to have worked equally well.
