Heated wing mirror

I have a 62 plate D4 with heated wing mirrors
The driver side mirror seems to struggle to defrost unlike the passenger side which is fine ( it does defrost put takes a very long time )
Can anyone enlighten me as to whether I need to purely replace the glass or is the heating mechanism within the wing mirror mechanism itself
If it is purely a glass replacement how easy is it to remove and replace the glass element

The heating is in the glass, no separate element. Carefully move the glass so you can get behind it and ease it off the four clips then remove the two mini spade wires.
