Does anyone know how these are controlled. Mine (56HSE) have stopped working. I've changed the fuse but cannot see anything else to check? Somewhere I thought I had read that they were activated automatically when the temperature dropped below zero, but now I'm not sure!

ISTR it's at or below 5'C
I thought mine had packed up, until the other day when it wasn't quite so cold and the water on the bonnet disappeared around the jets. Mark.

They work on the same info as the FBH 5 or below,
I checked the feed to mine (easy job with multimeter) they showed 12v but not getting warm,
Rang dealer expecting a fortune to replace but they are only £6 each (bonus)
5 mins to change now all ok 'Just because you're breathing doesn't mean you're alive'

The amount of heat in the nozzles/side mirrors depends on ambient temperature, and is controlled by a relay being pulsed in the battery fuse box in the engine bay. You should be able to hear it clicking on and off.
My mirrors stopped heating last year (or was it two years ago...) and once I re-seated this relay everything worked again. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

AFAIK all D3's have them.
Did you get the later D4 Nozzles? I'm told they relocated the heating element to the front of the nozzles and work much better. Mark.

while the bonnet is lifted , pull the insulation at the rear it should pull away far enough for you to see the underside of the jet, if it has wires going to it you have heated jets.
I was told thay only last 2-3 years before needing replacement, dont know how true that is! 'Just because you're breathing doesn't mean you're alive'
