Heated steering wheel again!

Having fitted my new (to me) steering wheel today, I found it started to warm up but not all of it and now none of it. The switch illuminates so I guess it's not a fuse but I don't have my glasses to check anyway until the wife gets home as I left them in her car. Am I right in assuming this?
Is there a choice of on/off or is it timed to run for a set period?
Just can't believe I didn't have to enable it and now it's given up.

It stays on .. it's not timed

Did you connect up the 12v connector at the other end of the clock spring ?

Next to left hand stalk ?

Hi Wiggs
That's the one that was wrapped in foam, yes that was done last week whilst awaiting delivery of the wheel itself. The wheel arrived this morning so I ran out and pulled my old wheel off and swapped everything over. Not difficult at all, just a bit fiddly as I needed my rear cowl for the paddle shift and my loom. It was all straightforward enough and as said, it did work initially but only the top and side grips warmed up as far as I could feel. Now it just doesn't seem to work at all. So is there no way to switch it off? Is it fused independently of the switch illumination?

You should be able to switch it on / off from the switch

Not near any documentation to check what fuse it is unfortunately

Does the illumination change colour, ie turn red when it's on or something. I can only assume it's a fuse.
Thanks for your help Wiggs.

Changed the fuse and the original is ok so not that, I'll strip it all down tomorrow to see if I've missed something.

The wheel has a temperature sensor fitted and connected to the ECU that turns the heating element on and off in order to control the temperature when switched on via the switch.
The switch illumination (red/orange) indicates the ECU is enabled and not that the heater is on.
I assume your ECU is the old type as your car is older than my14 and you did not need to enable it?

I have no idea the age of the ecu. My car is a 2012 and as suggested it worked (kind of) when I first fitted it. Now it doesn't. So a bit more digging to be done.

If the wheel switch is illuminating red when you press it then the ECU must be powered and working.
I'd be looking at the wheel itself (element or thermistor) or the connection onto the ECU in the 1st instance.
You can check the element and thermistor with a multimeter on resistance Thumbs Up

Sorry to hijack but does anyone else's wheel not get very hot? It's warm enough but I was expecting it to get quite toasty like the seats do.

Sorry, the switch illuminates in green only. No red or orange.
