Heated screen....it's that time of year
Hi All
I has my screen replaced a few months ago and have not used the heated screen since. Popped it on yesterday and nothing - on either side. It's a Pilkington and appeared to be well fitted.
The car (56 plate XS) does not do many miles and is just over 5 years old.
I have checked the fuses (both fine) and the dash led lights when switched on. The heated seats are working - I had thought it could be the battery but nothing else odd is happening. The connectors appear to be fine (to the screen) as well but I can't see power at the connector under the airbag cover. I have no way of checking the relay but would this fail?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Ade

Hi,
I'd doubt it's relay related and as all fuses etc are ok,can't you get whoever fitted it a few months ago back to check it out for you?

Hi Darrell
I've called them but it was Autoglass who won't know as much as you guys....and may well not call back. Worse they might want to fit the screen again....not eager for that to happen.

Maybe they forgot to connect the elements up - the connectors are behind the 'A' pillar internal trim if you wan to check.Regards,

Hi
I have checked both sides. I assume only one connector each side? The relay is also clicking when the switch is turned on and off so I can't see why it's not working on at least one side.
I'm going to try again tomorrow am in case pulling the connectors out and popping them back in has made a difference - well it is a disco!
Cheers

Even though a relay can be heard to click, there still may be no supply. You need to check for voltage between the connector and earth. Also, just in case you don't realise, the engine must be running for it to operate.
Low system voltage can also prevent the screen from working. The car does have a strategy for closing down certain systems when voltage is low. This could be due to tired battery or failing alternator, but you say the heated seats are working so that makes that theory quite weak.

Hi Ade,
There are two connectors each side. The heating element is actually two circuits. Check you have both connectors on each side plugged up.
FYI : Auto glass give a life time warrantee on their work, take it back.
I know this, because I just had mine fitted 3 hours ago.D4 SDV6 HSE 11MY - Gone

Hi All
Thx for the replies. I tried again today after pushing all relevant connectors in. Guess what, it worked. No idea why it didn't and then did but the screen is clearly (like the pun) okay.
