Heated rear window on?

Hi,I noticed that the heated rear window is on as soon as I start the car, there is no warning lights on the dash ,I know both heated screens come automatically when the temp is 4degrees or less with dashboard warning lights illuminated, but there is power is definitely on from start up even when outside temp was 9 degrees. I took the car to dealer under warranty and after the second time of going there they checked another D4 and it was doing the same as mine. They now say this is normal. But why would you want the HRW to come on when not required is the question. I am not sure how long it actually stays on for though.Has anyone else noticed this on their vehicle?
Update from the dealer, the HRW comes on for 4 minutes on start up,it’s called comfort mode.

Yep, I've noticed the same on mine.
On cold starts I see the switch lights come on at the console, then go off after a few minutes.
Which seems fair enough.
But like you, I've noticed a fair few times now when it's not been cold enough for them to come on in that way, but cool enough for the litre of water that lives in the car (topped up regularly by a wet labrador) to cover the windows, that I can see lines forming suggesting the rear screen heater is on.
Obviously it's the only time I notice it, so no idea if it's 'on' at any other times.
Maybe there is some kind of sensor on there that helpfully turns them on for you.
You'd think the dealer would know for sure, wouldn't you, as they have a workshop full of experienced fully trained technicians, or so they say, but...

Cheers

My heated rear screen seems to come on without any warning lights when starting up the car in cooler weather. Thumbs Up

You would think that they could call on their technical services for answers to problems. The dealer in question has only been at these new premises for just a couple of years so maybe not as experienced as you would think ?

It’s normal, comes on automatically when the temperature gets down to 4 or 5 degrees, possibly the same sensor that tells the FBH to fire up.

Hi washwipe,The problem is the rear screen comes on above 4degrees with no warning lights on dashboard, yes both screens do come on automatically when 4degrees as you and I know. I shall get my test lamp on it tomorrow and see if I can switch it off by pressing the button on the dash as soon as I start up to see if it switches it off. I will post my result when I test it.Regards.

To add to this iirc the heated mirrors will also be switched on automatically.

I thought that is what the humidity sensor is for behind the rear view mirror!
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
