I have xenons on my D3 and have never put anything on them when I go to the UK. The spread of light is different and it does not appear to dazzle anyone on either side.

I thought it was only the fancy adaptive xenons that could be set for Johnforeignerland? My forays were a mix of halogens & standard xenons (not at the same time) and red flag dude got run over on the first day.

I have the fancy adaptive xenons and never change them when we go over to France. Mainly because I cant do it and have never been flashed. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Ya big bunch of "can't be bothered" jessies...
It's all detailed in the user manual and is the matter of 10 mins or less to do both lights - I tend to do mine whilst in the queue for the Tunnel which does raise a few eyebrows as it appears that you are stripping the car down to component parts.
Only tip I would offer is to check that your sliders that lock the headlights into place will actually slide - a test run (possibly with a pair of pliers if you have girly fingers) and the mindset that you might need to give it all a quick squirt of WD-40 if you have a lot of grime on there.
Me... I'd rather be compliant than risk having the local Flic relieving me of €40 or more (seeminly at their discretion) just 'cause they had managed to find some such inconvenience.
Like I say, it takes but moments and (as long as your sliders play the game) is a no tools job...D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

adjusting headlamps for France etc
Handbook doesnt tell the full story. My 2006 D3 handbook shows the adjuster but i couldnt find it. I took the headlamp units off to look properly and still no lever. Eventually I arranged for dealer mechanic to show me how to operate change over. After a spot of faffing about looking for lever he removed headlamp and sought a second opinion. My HSE has the expensive headlamps with a flat beam pattern so there is no adjustment and to date I have not had a problem. Each trip I now save about £7 on beam converters!!!

If you've got 'girlie fingers' then you probably don't need to follow half the instructions in the book - just whip the rubber covers off, furtle around inside and drop the levers down (this is on a Xenon-equipped HSE). Have had a practise on the drive and I reckon I'll be able to do it in minutes while waiting at Dover.
But then, I do have 'girlie fingers'. "The quality remains long after the price has been forgotten."Henry Royce

Agree with GW my fancy xenons can be done in seconds without removing anything except the rubber cover, (which you can then drop irretrievably ) I've got big hands but long fingers. Drivers side more difficult. Push firmly on the multiconnector on top of the light housing which gives a bit more wiggle room to get your hand down in front of the air filter box.
I also put a red cable tie through the small tab on the side of each rubber cover to act as a handle to stop you dropping them
Once you've furtled the first time it becomes second nature to do it blind so to speak.
Got b d last year when actually ON the Shuttle, when I popped the bonnet, after we had loaded, to do it. The conductor got very firm saying the heat released from my engine would sent off all the foam sprinklers If it don't fit the third time - try a bigger hammer

Headlamp Adjuster
Hi Guys new here so go easy on me....
I have been through the instructions in the manual for changing the beam on my D3 SE (with Xenon lights)
Had the light cluster out no problem and popped the plastic covers off but could not for the life of me find where the adjuster lever is.... even had the very short sighted old man inspect them close up but nowt....
Now I have deflectors on the outside of the lights and still get flashed now ad again by the Frenchies and the Italians in their bombed out little renaults and fiats....
Help!!!
