I have just had a couple of runs in the dark, one with 5 passengers and one solo. In both cases the headlamps on main beam were way up into the trees. I reckon at least 30 feet. Pleanty of illumination on the road but the "beam" was sky high. Car has been in dealers who tell me no adjustmment available on the lamps. The "dip" beam is fine. Any one else with this problem?

Mine are the same.
There was a thread on here a year or two back about it. Don't know whether anything was resolved or not but for me the illumination is fine on the road, ...and in the trees!

Yep, my D4 (2010) is the same. The lights show the owls in the trees a treat!
Been into the local dealership and had to pay out to have the lights adjusted but still shows the tops of the trees.

From the optics advance in last years, car iluimination reflects light to the "trees" or the "sky" to iluminate trafic signals and trafic lane direction over-road indications, if you see the road OK, it should be ok, height of beam is measured with low beam, and high beam is leveled as the low beam levels, together and prefixed in relation of "heightness" from new, no adjust needed or possible without the other at the same time.

Hi CUCO, Many thanks, it now makes sense.
I wish my dealer had told me that in the first place as it would have saved me £18 for adjustment (mind you, why would he?).

FWIW, I complained about this characteristic to the dealer when my MY11 went in for the first service (12,000km). They said there was a problem with the original fitting and adjusted it. After all the complaints here about the high beam not being adjustable, I was dubious. Blow me down, if the first night I went for a run with high beams on - the adjustment was pretty good.
IMHO, the lights are not as good as the D3 - but now I am not distracted by possums and wildlife in the trees on either side of the road! 8)
Cheers,
Rob
