Headlamp Washers - weird. |
|
I cant work out how they work. Seem to have a mind of their own.
Full washer fluid. Lights on. Sometime the headlights wash when I wash the windscreen. Most of the time they don't.
Is there some kind of weird logic they apply to when the headlight washers work?
Thx
Mike.

This is the bit that'd worry me a hell of a lot more... Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?

Quote:The headlamp washers are only active when the headlamps and ignition are switched on. If the washer reservoir fluid level becomes low, the instrument cluster sends a message, via the CAN bus, to the CJB, which suspends headlamp wash operation to preserve washer fluid in the reservoir.
With the ignition and lights on, headlamp wash is activated on the first operation of the wiper column control switch in the wash/wipe position. The CJB then suspends headlamp wash activation for the next 10 minutes and four operations of the wash/wipe switch.
The CJB monitors the operation of the wash/wipe switch and maintains a counter to restrict headlamp washer operation to every fourth operation of the wash/wipe switch in conjunction with a 10 minute timer. The timer prevents a second operation of the headlamp washers within a 10 minute period. Should the washer switch be activated for more than four programmed wipe requests during the 10 minute period, the headlamp washer will remain disabled. Only the next consecutive programmed wipe request, after the 10 timer has expired, will the headlamp washers be enabled. The counter and timer are reset when the ignition is switched off.
When headlamp wash is active, the CJB energises the washer pump twice per cycle. The headlamp washer pump is powered for a 0.5 second period.
any help ?? Duncan

I think if everything in the handbook was described in such detail the book wouldn't fit in the boot let alone the glovebox Pot Noodle Challenge Winner 2011

Welcome kenw, there are 2 pumps, the headlamp washers uses its own motor/pump,so I'd go for the fuse option first (for the front and rear screen washer motor/pump.)

don't forget to put something under the fuse for easy extraction next time. I use those plactic coverd thin wires that cables come tied up in so you can just yank them out later. ..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

mikeyp... From the manual
Quote:HEADLAMP POWER WASH
If the headlamps are on, and there is sufficient liquid in the washer reservoir, operating the screen washer will also power-wash the headlamps.
The headlamp power wash will operate on every fifth operation of the screen washer, provided that the headlamps are still switched on and 10 minutes have elapsed since the last headlamp wash.
Switching the headlamps off and back on again will reset the cycle.
If the vehicle is fitted with the Terrain Response system, the headlamp wash will operate every third operation of the screen washer in all Special Programs (see Terrain Response, 210).
Note: In the screen washer reservoir, if the fluid level sensor detects a low level, the headlamp power wash is inhibited. Heated washer jets
If the ambient temperature falls to a point where icing of the washer jets could occur, power is applied to heat the jets provided that the starter switch is in position ’II’.
An approved screenwash is necessary to prevent freezing in very cold weather, see LUBRICANTS AND FLUIDS, 329.
