HDC fault/suspension bottomed/ABS lights/ Speedometer out

Hello Guys
This all started as an intermittent fault, we were driving when lots of amber lights (ABS,Parking Brake, tilt sensor) came on, the speedo stopped working, the suspension dropped to zero and the screen showed HDC fault, system not available. It's now permanent.
Went to dealers on Monday....nearside front wheel bearing collapsed....new hub, drive shaft and wheel bearing.. diagnosics following this suggested a dodgy abs sensor, so a new sensor was fitted £230 with no effect. So a total of £1150 and it's not fixed.
Could this be a speed sensor problem ? The speedo is showing zero. Anyone know where the sensor is or have any ideas ?
Andy

The speedo uses all 4 wheel speed sensors to determine road speed. IT could be as simple as a sensor, or it could be a wiring fault inside the chassis loom, usually at the connectors in the n/s/f wheelarch. Quite a common problem Thumbs Up

You need the ABS/Dynamics module read for codes to see which corner the fault is at, then go from there Thumbs Up

EDIT: Already had a new sensor, I would start checking the chassis loom for chaffed/broken wires Whistle

Ours with the same problem turned out to be a wiring problem. Still took the dealer 4 attempts to cure though!

My car is currently sat on the drive with all the above symptoms, all the same messages, new hub assembley the day before it all went "pete tong". Hopefully TFC coming to look at it on Tuesday, I'm sure he'll get it sorted pretty quickly.

I have fixed this exact same fault on many cars now, it is generally as said a broken/damaged wire or dodgy connection in a plug. All the ones i have done so far have been a rear wire problem.

Thanks, Pete!

That sounds good - no major components to be changed, then (I hope).

Which wires and parts/components were affected? Something I can search and fix myself?

The strange thing (for me) is that the warning lights only come on when I make a (sharp) left turn, and especially when on an uneven road.

Could this be triggered by the car rolling towards the right? Height sensor?

The poblem does not occur when using the brakes, so I do not suspect the brake switch or bulbs. But I might be wrong ...

Any ideas?

Sorted, at least partly.

ABS sensor wire from the left front hub had come loose, touching the tire and worn down the isolation on one side. In left turns the wires shorted and - voila! - christmas! Censored

Cut and splice wires and (almost) everything OK.

For some reason it was not possible to read out fault codes with the wire broken?!? No communication with the diagnose system. It actually "fried" and died ... Tried the Faultmate and it also froze. After the wire fix the Faultmate was able to make contact with the car again. Anyone ever experienced this?

The indicator light for "High" on the transfer box is still not lit, although it seems the special programs and high/low is working allright. Have had problems with the transfer box before and will check what has happened. Any ideas?

would this abs sensor effect the dashboard speedometer ?
or is it something else which is effecting it ?

it seems when i turn right it effects it so i assume a sensor under one of the wheel arches.
Any idea ?

Hi,

I've experienced the same issue. According to all posts I have to sort out for myself where the wiring problem is. Wish me luck! Smile

Hi guys, revisiting this old post as there's probably no point in creating a new one seeing as the OP has all same symptoms.

Fault code reads RR Wheel Speed Sensor. Circuit Open. I have changed the sensor today and tried clearing the fault but it won't go away. Have checked all bulbs. Had a break light out which I've replaced. I've seen some people suggesting I check fuses but not quite sure which ones I should be looking at.

Or can anyone tell me the route of the wires and where to check. Is it possible to check them without putting up on ramp??

Would be very greatful for any help whatsoever on this one.

Thanks.
