This one is amazing

This one is a beauty. I’ve already posted somewhere but it gets better (and still isn’t fixed!).
2005 D3 HSE
Press brake pedal and ping, HDC fault, suspension lowers.
Brake switch and lights all swapped and changed - nothing different - and interestingly the brake lights don’t work unless they’re shorted at the switch (switch removed).
Red wire at switch has power.
THIS IS THE BEST BIT I JUST DISCOVERED YESTERDAY HAVING ANOTHER PLAY:

Remove brake switch totally from the pedal box but keep wiring connected, press the brake pedal and instantly, HDC fault and suspension lowers. Try same with switch depressed by hand and press the brake pedal, exactly the same.
I’m completely confused as now, unless corrected, nothing electronic is connected to the brake pedal.

Completely nuttcake - any thoughts?

Have any codes?
Read this thread, good diagnostics provided by Robbie and Martin
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/transmissio...37607.html

I had the corroded wire as in that thread. That may not be your problem but that thread details the various wires going to the brake switch (see post by Martin).

Having this HDC fault on my D3, mostly on the cold mornings battery is about 5 years old, one notable issue is the lack of the rear parking sensor!!. Once car is started and then stopped and restarted no warning and parking sensor works fine! After being out last night I took battery voltage of 12.55V, this morning before starting it was at 12.25V, I think a new battery is required??? Would appreciate any thoughts before forking £100+ on a battery

Thanks

Could be the brake switch. He is how to tell:

- cold morning (less than -5C usually)
- start car, do NOT press brake pedal
- should see no warning lights
- quickly depress and release brake pedal
- wait 2 seconds
- DING!

Curse, pump pedal a bunch of times, turn car off then on, go on your way.

If you want to be sure you can use the IID tool and monitor the two brake signals. You will see the one turn on/off at the same time as you press/release the pedal. The other will be delayed when you release the pedal resulting in the fault.

I'll try to grab a video of it on mine. Been doing it consistently when below -5C (which is like every day in this winter hellscape I've chosen to live).

Here's a video with the IID tool showing the slow to respond brake switch causing the faults:
