having your caravan/trailer nicked
This shouldnt effect us lot given the nature of our towbars, but it would appear one of the fastest ways to nick a caravan thats left unattended (typically the motorway services) whilst attched to the car (and with a hitchlock fitted), is just to unbolt the towball from the towcar - takes less that 2 mins with a cordless impact wrench and a ring spanner. Then re-attach the ball to the getaway vehicle and you're away.

yep - its only 2 bolts holding the ball to the towbar - then in their own time take an angle grinder to the hitchlock.

I thought that myself, that's why I nip inside, buy a sandwich and drink, then sit in the car whilst the wife does the toilet runs and feeds the kids,
And I relax

that's why I'm less inclined to fit a hitchlock at motorway services and more inclined to fit a wheelclamp...

That's why I never stop in motorway service areas, oh and the fact that they are all blood descendants of Dick Turpin himself.
Laybys for us, whereupon SWMBO gets the flasks and sarnie box out. The 30 quid I save every time pays for the beers at campsite.

I always put the wheelclamp on, as well as the hitchlock.., and keep the outfit in sight at all times..which is why I won't use Stafford North on the M6.

As I said, if you have the removeable towbar it shouldnt be an issue, but if you've the fixed one then it could be. Just worth keeping in mind.

As the old saying goes, a lock is only there to keep an honest man out. If these guys really want you caravan/trailer/car whatever, they are going to have it
