Harman Kardon amplifier relacement

Hello to everyone from Athens, Greece

I would appreicate any advice/suggestions on a problem that I have encountered on my Disco3 HSE audio system.

For the past few months I have been dealing with a...sudden silence of my audio system (including radio, cd, aux). Even though the radio/cd unit is functioning, at the same time there is complete absence of sound. For example, I would start the car engine, start driving listening to music and all of a sudden...nothing! If I attempted to turn the volume knob it would be like there is no sound reaction from the unit.

THis phenomenon could last from a few minutes to...hours and then all of a sudden the sound would return.

I checked with my dealer and in their first inspection they could not locate the problem. I thought I could..live with it. Nevertheless, I reached a point where this problem was permanent, I had no sound whatsoever.

So, in a second attempt to discover the problem the dealer informed me that the problem is in the amplifier and despite their attempt to overcome the problem and repair it (to minimize expense) they have failed to do so.

As a result they suggested that I ordered a new unit (I am past guarantee period) from Harman Kardon UK which will cost me about...900 euro!!

Bottom end, has anyoned replaced their unit in the past? Did he paid anywhere close this amount of money?

Could the problem lie somewhere else (maybe I can help my dealer!!!)?

Any feddback, or guidance as far as replacement will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!!

Hi, I had exactly the same problem as you describe here, no volume and no regestration of the volume being turned up or down on head unit. Mine was under warrenty and the dealer located the problem to one of the rear passenger audio controls. Maybe worth disconnecting them and see if the problem persists, if not then reconnect one at a time to find the faulty culprit.
This is only my experience with this problem, but it's worth a shot before paying 900 euros.

Hope you find the problem.

Lee
