re: the door pocket - it also needs to be properly fixed in place - you don't want to survive a crash only to be clobbered in the head by a 1kg metal tube flying around the inside of your car!formerly Disco3Ben

Well finally got mine fitted today, was a pain in the a**e trying to mark it up before drilling the holes and even then I needed to make some adjustments. Just used a M5 bolt and washer to hold it in place, will see how that does, only problem I have is every time I try to take the extinguisher out of the cradle it pulls the panel off which I need to look into.

I fitted in passenger foot well SWMBO don't have a problem with it being there. Nearly needed to grab it and use in anger yesterday morning when smoke coming from dash 🤔 quickly disconnect battery. I knew about Profs going up in smoke so for warned. Wanted mine close to grab if the brown stuff hits the fan👍Welsh Collie Chauffeur Service To Barney & Rooney.

First started to smell hot thought from cleaning round engine the night before only 5 minutes up the road when smoke from dash pulled off the road wife son & two dogs out. Got socket to remove negative pulled bonnet & disconnected it. Told the others to walk home gave it 10 or 15mins then reconnected dash light like Christmas tree drove home bonnet popped just in case. Learnt from others how quickly things happen and I was lucky
Maybe worth having spanner with extinguisher for quick battery disconnection. Hopefully never need it but those few seconds could make all the difference Welsh Collie Chauffeur Service To Barney & Rooney.

Just happened to wander across this thread during these dark Covid winter nights and seen that a few of us all have the same worries...... (or safety concerns), regarding extinguishing unannounced fires.
Anywho.....I have installed said fire extinguisher in the rear NS panel of my Disco and find it one of the best solutions for an otherwise big waste of space. I had thought of creating a netted pocket for the area but found my extinguisher fitted here just nicely and can be easily reached and seen in the event of an eventuality.
The extinguisher cradle is bolted through the plastic moulding for security and so far has not fell off or impeded loadspace.

The “official” mount point is the ledge of the passenger seat. LR has a 1 kg extinguisher that mounts there.
The LR one for the front passenger seat is quite good, I have fitted it and I am an enthusiastic amateur... it mounts the extinguisher well out of the way but imho be very, very careful how you deal with the existing wiring and all the fixings under the seat. You have to unclip some of the wiring clips to fit the bracket and reroute them (without unplugging any). If you get that wrong and someone moves the passenger seat forward to the fullest extent there is then a risk of ripping the wires somewhere.
A job to take some time over...
Whether a 1kg powder fire extinguisher will do anything to a vehicle fire is another question that has been done elsewhere on here.
Although they don't do 1kg extinguishers (yet) these guys make a very interesting product - Coldfire - an extinguishing product which is a much more efficient product to tackle a vehicle fire. It is used extensively in the US and is starting to gain traction in the UK.
I am not associated with it in any way but I do carry a larger one in the boot...

Whilst Dean’s mount is good, I’m liking the idea of this one (as it won’t interfere with big loads).
Currently mine is in the storage area under the rear seats (with a multitude of other essentials), however whilst other “emergencies” can wait for a bit, unfortunately fire won’t (whilst I’d have to rummage around to locate the extinguisher.)
So reckon I’ll give this one a go.
Just need to locate suitable mounts for my other prime emergency stuff - first aid kit and glass hammer/seat belt cutter.
