Although I don't want this to become a name and shame episode, I am happy to name my dealer as they have been very attentive to my vehicle's servicing needs. (If you are near the Gold Coast, then Bruce Lynton Land Rover does a good job.) Other than a dealer in Canberra, this has been my only contact with servicing. LeighW

Very happy with mine so far. They have taken my complaints and comments genuinely.
Have explained issues or what LR are or are not prepared to do, I have not had a major failure yet but all warranty issues have been fixed. They are going to remove half the dash at the next service to solve the farting A/C.

Yes, you will note I have not mentioned who I have gone to.
HOWEVER, I am sure everybody would like to hear about good service and dealers and so although it may have only been your experience (and somebody else may have different) I think it appropriate to name good dealers and their service. regards
Peter

CaverD3, I have had 3 vehicles from Alto and have had the same experience that you have had. They were very professional and courteous and aware that I was travelling 4 hours for my service. I had a couple of hitches during this time and they moved quickly to fix these, including putting us up in a motel one night. Once, they lent us a Jaguar overnight as a courtesy car. I told my current dealer not to call his car a "courtesy car" as he charges $50.00 a day for it (A beaten up old Ford Falcon).
Regrettably, I purchased the D3 from the same dealer that PBH is going on about. They are "ok" I suppose, but don't have nearly the professional service that Alto has. I went there as the service is only one and a half hours away, but they don't know a lot. Also, buying the D3 was not a pleasant experience, as when I did the deal the dealer whinged and moaned at the price. I told him to forget about it, but he went ahead anyway. Told me the deal was "bastardisation of the brand". So I know where PBH is coming from - the joys of owning a semi rare vehicle in the country. The trained mechanic (a young bloke) at the Dealers is a good person. 2006 HSE TDV6 Bonatti Grey, ECB bull bar, tropical roof, LG Next G car kit, Tom Tom GPS, UHF, Mitchell Bros tow bar, Kimberley Kamper Limited Edition camper trailer and 23 foot Haines Signature half cabin (Towed separately!)

I would have to say my dealer is "pretty good."
For them to get to the next level, they should have the parts in stock to do repairs. Shipping parts from UK or interstate is a joke. When a new model arrives, LR Australia should ship changed parts too.
They also misinterpret my instructions when writing the work sheet. For example, I asked "Check what the idle speed of the TDV6 should be, as it is not in the manual" and the job sheet had "Check idle speed of turbo". So my question was not answered and they wasted time doing unnecessary work.
Mazda 2 loaners are available for $33 a day. Not too expensive, but it is nice to get back into the D3 at the end of the day!
Cheers,
Rob

caverD3 what is this farting? On my car I get a fart/belch type noise from, what I think is, the aircon at start-up, but quiet after that. Is your's the same?

fart from passenger side behind glovebox. Just after start up, didn't do it in winter but now summer is here it has started again.
Embarassing if you have a client inthe car.
air con flaps causing it, requires removal of a lot of the dash. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

So far the only experience has been with delivery and follow up on some questions, etc. I must say the experience has been exceptionally good. The dealer Principle delivered the vehicle to home and spent at least 2hrs with us going thru everything. They were quite happy to fit the tyres of my choice before delivery (BFG's) and provided advice about modifications (fitment of electonic brake controller, UHF radio, etc).
SUbsequent queries have been followed up promptly and the nice bottle of red, Land Rove caps, key rings etc were well received. The dealer is Mac Land Rover. Unfortunately (for me) they're locatied in Mt Gambier, about 400km from Adelaide, so they won't be an option for service - but they certainly sound as if they know what they are on about.
Cheers.

I'm very happy with my dealer Trivett - Alexandria (used to be in Surry Hills).
I can highly recommend Rob Carrington in sales; great customer attitude, loves his product, wont BS you, and will look after you long after the sale! I've had to go back to Rob on a couple of things and he looked after everything.
Fred the LR service manager knows his product & explains any issues. He's prepared to listen as well, so we've had a few healthy debates!! Between Fred and his colleague David, I feel looked after pretty well.
Vic '11 TDV6 - Stornoway Grey.... still lovin' it!!

just bumping this.
I find it interesting that 65 people have replied to the colour poll and only 28 to this one! Does that mean people havent had their cars serviced? OR do you only report when things are bad?
I also find it interesting that 45% are either unhappy or find the service is the minimum acceptable. NOT a very good result for dealers so far is it? Wonder of the UK is the same?
So if you find a good delaer stick with them! regards
Peter

Despite buying mine in Sydney, I have it serviced here at Perth at Barbagello's. Service is EXPENSIVE but thorough and complete. My primary contact are the guys in Parts. They are knowledgable, friendly and passionate about the vehicles. I was wanting some hub bolts for a trailer I'm having built (trailer to use alternate set of D3 tyres and have same track as my D3). They aimed me to a set of hubs in the rubbish which had the bolts for free. Also as the photo shows, I had a bit of a tingle with a Hilux. All of the parts needed (this includes radiator, fan, hoses, bonnet, fender, alternator) were available in stock in Perth - an overwhelming shock to the system. Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.

Many have said that their dealer needs to do better but many more (over 50%) say they are happy with their dealer.
It is clear your dealer is cr p and needs a good kicking, especially being in the country where LR need to make some inroads into the perception of Toyota being the vehicle for the bush. If I lived in bush and got the service I get at my dealer I would be happy to buy a disco, but with the service you have experienced it would make worry about after sales.
I am much happier with my LR dealer that any Toyota or Nissan dealership I have ever heard of. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Caverd3,
Don't get me wrong, I think the car is brilliant and I am NOT headhunting or trying to stir trouble. BUT, I thought it would be an interesting exercise as we are a small band of LR lovers who in general are more loyal than other brands (totally unsubstaniated comment!! as I also used to have an Alfa and there was a great loyalty amongst those who had one and, like LR, a lot of misconceptions and putting down by those who didn't own one!!).
Anyway, neutral or negative feelings amongst those who responded so far here in Oz in 41% as of 13/11/07 and 40% in the UK
If I had 40% of my customers who weren't happy with how they are treated I don't think I would still be in business.......(PS I am a GP (family practitioner for our US based friends))!
PPS......mind you those of mine who are unhappy usually can't complain due to the finality of their complaint regards
Peter

The LR dealer here in Darwin is very good. I bought my Evo from them (they are primarily a Mitsubishi dealer), and now the D3. Friendly, no BS and offer a good after-sales service. The only thing I have against them is they weren't very generous on the purchase price of either vehicle, and one trade-in figure was frankly insulting. Either that's because I'm a crap negotiator (I tried!), or because they are the only dealer in Darwin and so have a captive audience, or both. '07 Disco 3 TDV6 SE
