Handbrake Screech after changing EPB shoes

I got the dreaded handbrake screech, so adjusted the EPB but it was no better, so I changed the EPB shoes (and found one side was deteriorated and missing bits) and ran the bedding in procedure, but I've still got the squeal.

Is it likely I'll need a new module?

You need to check to see if a cable is broke or not connected to the shoe's.

If its all connected and adjusted correctly then it should not squeal .

I changed my handbrake shoes recently as one was not engaging, but no screeching. Followed the adjustment procedure in Bodsys brake bible and started the bedding in procedure. On the 8th braking run, I got the dreaded screech.

Jacked it back up. Ran the EPB module to the service position using the diagnostic software(as the bodsy method using the button sequence didn't work for me), and redid the adjustment procedure. Screeching was gone after that. My thinking is that the adjustment must of went out of tolerance when I was trying to bed the brakes.

Thanks Flack.

The cables both looked connected and not broken. Is it possible they could be broken at another place, other than where they connect to the brake shoes?

@Ali4390

Its easy to check the cables just apply the epb and see if both disc's can be turned, if not it must be adjustment. I just turn the adjuster's till the wheel locks, give the disc a tap with a copper hammer to center the shoes try and tighten the adjuster more, Then once locked turn the adjuster back seven click's.

Did you also adjust the allen headed bolt adjuster that moves the wedge adjuster on the trailing shoe.?

Yes, adjusted the Allen screws and adjusted as per the Bible.

When doing the bedding in procedure, I got an amber handbrake light and a flashing red light, as well as continuous bonging whilst the vehicle was moving, and a warning of "Park Brake Fault".

Will try adjusting again but not sure if I damaged something during the bedding in procedure

As Ja9uar said, carry out the adjustments again on both sides in service mode…

Worked for me too https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/epb-repairu...9-435.html

I was also going to look at the module thinking it can’t be the adjustments as I’ve just done them.
Good luck

I always tighten the shoes fully up on the adjustment and bang the drum part of the disc to cetralise the shoes then check and adjust the shoes.
I dont bother with the bedding in process as I normally replace the shoes and the discs at the same time.
