Halogen to Xenon Coding
Hi all. I have a 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 S and am looking to replace the Halogen headlamps with a set of Xenons units that I'm collecting this week. I've read that the xenons will just drop in place (plug and play) but will flicker for a while when starting. I've read reviews that this flickering can be resolved by recoding with an IID tool. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so, is there anyone in the Gatwick area that can do this programming? Any pointers or help (together will how much this will cost) will be greatly appreciated. Cheers 😁

Hi, completely correct! although to be legal you need to have headlight washers and the suspension be pneumatic (for self-leveling), that I imagine it will be!!lost in translation!
Without the ccf being edited, the xenons may just flicker then turn off ... you'll need to get it done when you swap the units..

Thanks for the replies Ruben and Hardware17.
I'll heed the advice and wait until I find someone who has an IID tool that can re-programme the files before swapping the light units over.
Incidentally, when I purchased the D3 it came with an icarsoft LRII 2nd Generation tool. I've updated the tool and run diagnostics on the car and was hoping that that I would be able to do the changes myself but it looks like this system can only diagnose faults, with the ability to reset only certain warning lights etc... unfortunately it doesn't look like it has the ability to change headlight settings though. Unless someone can tell me otherwise?

Most ppl can't do CCF edits on other people cars. (requires £65 licence)
I suggest you fit one side, and see if it lights up and works well, if it does fit the other side

I disagree in part. The headlights will work and at most they will flash very lightly a couple of times at the beginning only, but they will not turn off, and all of this without editing the CCF, I have had mine, 06 MY, with the brief flicker of start for years and no problems at all, and yours when it is of an 08MY it may happen that it does not even blink, believe me, they are plug and play!lost in translation!

Agree. Loads of owners are using upgraded headlights without altering the ccf but only on D3.
D4 is a slightly different animal with a 50-50 success rate, some work, some don't without ccf upgrade. Mods:

FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.

Thanks again guys for all the advice and guidance. I'm actually picking the lights up tonight but won't be fitting them until next weekend... I'll let you know how I get on though.
In the meantime I'll be getting a new Torque Converter fitted on Tuesday together with transmission flush and filters. That will lighten me by £1200! Still absolutely love the car though!

Just a quick update. I swapped over the light units and they work perfectly with no coding required. A very slight flicker on start up for about a second but that's it. Thank you for all the advice given here

Cheers Ruben Your advice was great and spot on!!
Headlight washers to be added very soon!!
For note - Since doing the headlights I have also swapped out my broken centre console arm rest with a lovely (none scratched) leather one from an HSE model which included the fridge. I was chuffed to find that the existing wiring loom in my S model had the fridge connector (wrapped in foam for protection) so I didn't need to swap the whole harness either. I've also changed both front door cards as mine had suffered damage by the previous owner who it would appear constantly smashed the seat belt buckle into the door cards leaving loads of rips and holes down the edge. The cards were also obtained from the same HSE model so I now have puddle lights too! Its good that LR decided to use the same wiring looms (to an extent) and leave the redundant connectors so people like me can upgrade 8)
