Halogen to Adaptive Xenon upgrade |
|
My D3 came with the standard Halogen candle headlights, which frankly are embarassing!
I bought a set of adaptive xenon lights which i have fitted. I have used my IID tool and told the car it now has Xenon headlights, but the one thing i cant get right is the beam setting, it is miles too high, more so on the drivers side.
It has been suggested that i need to pop them into a D3 which is fully equipped with adaptive lights in order that my ones ‘self centre’?
What i cant understand though, is if they came out of. D3 fully equipped, then why are they not all ready self centered?

Are they both too high? How high is the drivers side. it's possible the flap that uncovers the bulb between low and high beam is sticky?

I have had that suggested before as well. Yes they are both high. My wife has a D3 HSE with Xenons, which recently passed its MOT, so i know the height of the beam on hers must be aboutt right. By comparison, mine are like anti aircraft search lights!

Are the headlamps fitted correctly? Sounds stupid but if they are not secure at the bottom then that could be the issue?

it's possible, as I found out, to get the lights back in place with the lower clip-thingy (technical term ) sat forward of the bit that locks it in place.
Could you have done that ? .

I wondered if i had done just that, so i took them both out and checked. I dont think i have them mounted incorrectly, they look like they are fitted into place ok. I will double check. 👍

Could the problem be that the lights i have bought are the Adaptive ones?

In a word, yes. No doubt there is a technical explanation, but I always understood upgrading from halogen to adaptive xenon wasnt a straight swap and a bit of IID trickery tbh.

Swap them for your wife’s and see what they are like, make sure your wife’s are switched off before removal as ISTR if they are not they will do what yours are doing. Have they come from an accident damaged vehicle? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
