Grind, snap ( i think), stop |
|
The other night i was driving around and heard a grinding sound and then the car just stopped. Now in Malawi we are not blessed with a great choice of LR mechanics (if any). the one chap who saw the car the next day said he thought it was the timing belt! It has only done 28000 miles so i was slightly concerned.
My reading on the site mentions something about a fuel belt at the back of the engine- is this something that may cause this problem? Does anybody have a diagram of where the timing belt, cam belt and fuel belt go on the engine?
Also, the mechanic says he has to lift the whole cab to remove the fuel belt- this concerns me greatly!!!
Can it be changed without removing the cab- if so any ideas how?
I would appreciate any assistance you may be able to give- i have tried searching the site but unfortunately the internet in Malawi is about as reliable as LR's!!!
Many thanks

There is no need to lift the body to replace the fuel pump belt a quick check to see if the cam belt has gone is to remove the oil filler cap and whilst looking at the camshaft through the filler hole get someone to turn the engine over on the starter, if the cam turns your lucky , if it doesn`t I can resist everything except TEMPTATION

The cover requires no tools to remove it just a couple of clips. You will need a small pair of hands as the space is limited but it is possible I can resist everything except TEMPTATION
