Superted,
Welcome to the forum. I think there are more D3's than you think in Dubai, but most of them could be parked at DXB where their ex-pat owners have abandoned them due to the current climate On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

Lol!!!
Coinicidentially I was thinking of buying new but got such a bargain on a used LR3 couldn't resist!
I actally live in a small town called Al-Ain out in the desert along the UAE / Oman border. I have only seen a handful of other LR3s out here (but loads of RR sports).
It's nice to stand out from the crowd (of landcruisers) and give them a run for their money! (Anyone who has been out Here will know what I mean).
Superted.

Welcome superted
Just for the record there are also more than a handful of D3 owners in Oman - mainly Muscat and there is some wonderful driving to be had over the border in that most wonderful Sultanate - I know from past experience ...
Some good driving around also in RAK and round / over the top to Fujairah. Up towards Hatta border too.
Anyway, enjoy the sun, heat, sweat and flies and the D3 - Not jealous at all FORECAST FOR TONIGHT: things have happened out there!!!

Hi there and welcome.
In Dubai, the number of LR3s is actually staggering, given the love of the local population infactuation with the Land Cruisers and Nissan Patrols! They are indeed very common, perhaps not as common as the Range Rover, which are as common as your average Vaxhaul in the UK, and that is hopefuly a testament to their reliability and sturdiness, especially in this harsh environment in terms of heat.
The only observation that I have is I have never seen them off road in the dunes. I guess the weight is a heavy factor and one of the reasons why Japanese 4x4 get the majority of the business here. Biggest issue aI see is tires and fuel consumption (V8 for me).

Superted, welcome to Dubai, and to the Forum,
as said, there is a surprising number of D3s here, most driven for school run( and you can bet that the owners are brits), but like elsewhere, sme die hard fans will take them off road.
yep you will have some difficulties in soft sand mainly due to tires/rims combination.... nothing yet.

I like the fact that so many are around, this means that a) parts are available and b) the car is somewhat reliable. I resisted the temptation to go European after my brand new VW Touareg had cost me so much in regular maintenance!
