Hi all. Im new to the forum, new to owning a D3 (most expensive second hand car Ive ever bought) and I love it...kids have called it Hank (the tank!) I have a 2007 SE and its pretty much scratch free....for now!!
I tend to use it to drive to Reading and back home on the M4 or from home a couple of miles to the tube and back...so pretty much commuter stuff...nothing adventurous. I would however love to give a little off roading a try on something that would limit the likelihood of damage to the car on the first go! Dont mind scratches but a costly repair job would not go down too well with the boss!!
Having not had the opportunity of using the 4x4 options in the 3 months I've had it, I'm a complete and utter novice!! If anyone knows of a decent starter route, or if there is a potential "meet" in the not too distant future and someone can provide advice/ coaching I would be very interested...and grateful
I live in the Uxbridge area so right on the inside of the M25 car park!!
Hopefully hear back from someone soon.
Cheers
Rich

I don't know how much is still open but South Bucks (Princes Risborough. High Wycome etc) has parts of the Ridgeway running through it ..... it is definitely closed at the moment as it has an annual temp closure every winter, usually reopening around Easter?
I haven't driven the lanes for a few years but they used to be a good and not too taxing/damaging trip out.
You'd need to get some more up to date information before attempting to drive them Nick

Try a pay and play day like Devils pit or Yarwell quarry, you can do as much or as little as you feel comfortable with and will meet some helpful folk.
You will also meet some nutters, last time I went a group of lads were off roaring in a 4x4 fiat with upvc pipe as a snorkel. Engine kept running, but having water come in over the window sills was funny. Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

The Ridgeway in Berkshire is definitely closed at the moment. Opens end of April I think. Will try to remember to check the sign next time I go by...

Thanks guys. I will check the Ridgeway out and see what its like.
Mr Tom...Devils pit looks like an interesting one and not too far away...I'm assuming they will give some advice too...or is it just the case you go round the track and learn on the fly!

Devils Pit is one of the better pay/play sites as they usually have some marshalls floating about ......... most sites in my experience are uncontrolled and bordering on the dangerous sometimes! Too many people turn up with death-traps on the back of trailers and then just rip the place up Nick
