Great car

Just wanted to say what a great car the D4 is Very Happy

Having just driven over 4000 miles through 10 countries I have to say the engine is fantastic . I have done this trip a few times in D3's and this time it was just much more pleasurable . The extra power for the hills of Romania was a real bonus .

Car has been faultless . I also borrowed a prospeed rack ( Bow down to Buellbeast ) which I must say I diddn't even know was there .

Fuel economy was / is sh-it Sad ... But iv given up worrying about it .... And driving through Germany pretty much flat out proberly didn't help

100 miles from home and got a stone chip ... Resulting in a 14 " crack across the windscreen ... Big Cry

Great trip though ... Was having a beer in Bratislava on Friday night .... And a chinese banquet on Saturday night in Holland ( thanks to Dan_NL for the tip .. And nice to meet you and your son Thumbs Up )

Having had the pleasure of the D4 3.0 241BHP engine for 30,000 miles, I agree it is an outstanding engine and a pleasure to drive. I loved the D3 engine but this engine is special.

For me, when I got the D4, it was great to find my best toy had just got better. Your test route was slightly more exotic than the north east of England and the borders of Scotland but I am sure no more challenging. A proper machine - fit for purpose. I smile every time I have to drive it Very Happy

I agree the 3.0 TDv6 is a very good engine, but I would actually put it third to the TDv8 (which is a fantastic thing to live with) and the first TDv6 2.7's in the very early D3's. Maybe it is my memory playing tricks on me, but the way that engine was set up gave almost electric car response, noise and smoothness. But fuel consumption was very low so I understand LR changed the timing and as a result all later TDv6's (after the first 6 months of build) were not so smooth but did a good bit more MPG.

But all of the engines still are well ahead of the competition and light years ahead of the TD5 or TDi's of older Discos.

For the last 4 weeks i've been driving around in a D4 courtesy car, got to admit although i miss my own car this one is great, the engine is so responsive, it pulls really well and leaves a lot of other cars standing... The long journies to Abersoch are effortless and the car gives great confidence... I'll be sorry t see it go......

The only downside is i don't thinks its as economical and i'm not getting as much from a full tank as my own....Then again it might be because i try and drive it harder

The other downside is........ I can't afford one Rolling with laughter
If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Wiggs,

If you forego the German autobahn MPG figures, what do you reckon you get from the D4? I thought it was supposed to have better economy that the 2.7? That was one reason I was thinking of changing.

I have a mpg app on the iPhone ( to work out my works mileage )

Across the board it's 22 mpg .

Best I have had was on the trip down to Dover . All the roadworks and 50 mph speed limits gave me 24mpg.

Germany motorways about 20 mpg

Rest of the time is 22mpg. It's done 6000 miles now.

I'm a little disapointed with the figures ... But it's better than the G4 ( although if I had taken off the MTR's I suspect about the same mpg )

Trip meter shows about 3 mpg over

The app is very accurate and works it out from fill to fill .

I've now done 4500 miles in mine and still love just going out for a drive in it, it's the best car I've owned by far Thumbs Up Even green lanning a few weeks back with George, Chris and Simon it handled everything brilliantly on some very tricky tracks in North Yorkshire.

As for fuel consumption I also have an app on my phone and I am averaging 23.88 mpg with a best of 28.16mpg and a worst of 20.46mpg. I also find the computer over reads by about 3mpg. The other week I drove down the A1 from Durham to Scotch Corner at 50mpg as we were waiting for somebody to catch up and the computer said 35mpg which is great but you cannot just drive this car at 50mph everywhere Twisted Evil

It's very good and can be used for more than one vehicle.

My D3 replacement currently averages 50.4 over 3050 miles! and I don't need to muck around with sticking to 50mph Very Happy
